Smile Re: VHF Handheld radio sale

No problem, Ron

We took 2 of our old ones on a 7 day cruise....it was fun to listen to our ship and the other ships

Just remember, it is illegal to use these between two land locations or from your car to another car...{:=))

Our plan is to use these between a security patrol boat, a San Martin Island base station and another base station onshore at La Chorera. The distance between the three points shouldn't exceed four miles. Does the island location count as a "land" location technically since it is three and a half miles offshore?

No worries, mate........you can call from "land" to a ship/boat.

Some people use them strictly on land from point to point and also in vehicle caravans........I believe that is illegal, but I guess it works!!!!!

You should also be able to replace the antenna on the radio with a larger, higher gain fixed mount antenna.......and the higher the antenna is mounted, the better transmit/reception.

These radios should enable people in Punta Banda to listen in on ship traffic in the harbor

I did a search for Overton's coupon codes and came up with an additional $10 off my order. What a great deal...

Most Punta Bandans I know wouldn't have a clue as to what they were saying. Way too Spanish for most of them.

Got my 3 units in and we tried them out today. They work great and have much better range than advertised. From the beach where we are building I talked to a panga off colonet (40 miles), a truck driver south of Los Pinos (25 miles), a dispatcher in Camalu (35 miles) and one of our guys in Colonia Guerrero (25 miles). It also looks like they can be recharged off a base recharger so will look into that.

Great recommedation Terry - thanks!

By the way, the book says they are guaranteed waterproof /submerged for something like up to a half hour - pretty tough little units. Nobody here believes me how cheap we picked these things up. I probably should have ordered a hundred and resold them!

Thumbs up Re: VHF Handheld radio sale

Well, live and learn.........maybe we should check the other outdoor/boating catalog sites????

Well, no luck there........maybe this was a one time deal or an inventory clearance......anyway, glad they worked out.....I'm impressed
