Post Attorney general says no 'narcoterrorism' in Mexico (AFP)

AFP - Mexico's attorney general on Friday said he had no evidence that the country's drug gangs were involved in terrorism, after a deadly attack on two police cars in a northern border city.

"We don't have any evidence in the country of activities of narcoterrorism as it has occurred in other countries," Arturo Chavez Chavez told journalists. He was unable to confirm whether a car bomb had been used in Thursday's attack, in which suspected drug gang members rammed a car which may have contained explosives into two police vehicles.

The incident killed two police and a medical worker and injured at least 16 on a main artery of Ciudad Juarez, the public security ministry said.

"The implications of this are not to destabilize the state but to frighten society," Chavez said.

The attack was retaliation for the capture of Jesus Armando Acosta, a leader of La Linea gang, the armed wing of the city's notorious Juarez cartel, the public security ministry said.

Ciudad Juarez is at the heart of Mexico's spiraling drug violence, in which at least 23,000 have been killed in the past three and a half years since President Felipe Calderon launched a military crackdown on organized crime.

Further south in the same Chihuahua state, gunmen on Thursday shot and killed the nephew of the governor-elect during a failed kidnap attempt, authorities said.

......and, a frightened society has absolutely no impact on the stability of the government? There's a word for this type of nonsense.

I was likewise heartened to note a lack of the term "terror" in recent reports about that Pakistan bombing.

I consider it more efficient to use the less scientific one- word term.
