Default MORE Thunderstorms

I caught these images about two hours ago. We just had a pretty nasty storm go through with some really close strikes. These three images are a still sequence of a single lightning strike. The stills are from video:

I was really wishing I had taken care of improving the ground rod I had been talking about doing. I think that's my first project tomorrow before we get anymore storms

In the higher resolution image on my computer, in the first picture you can see the bolt striking the trailer next door. A little close for comfort.

Wooo - in the first photo it looks like a line was drawn through the middle of the photo where the lightning bolt changes in size?

Amazing images!

I have no idea what that is...it's only in that one frame. The lightning bolt is completely different below the line than above. Is it the feeder coming up from the trailer???

Looks like some kind of frame grab hiccup from going video-to-still.

Great shots, wow!! I sure hope you and Oladulce and the cats were wearing your flipflops and refraining from surfing.

First step for us legz, is to make sure the grounding rod is secure. My neighbor happen to notice his sitting on the side of his driveway a couple of weeks ago. When we built, the boss here wasn't real thrilled with the first burial, so re did it. Without a lot of building code, somethings are done more casually here, but you know that better than I. Last year we were sitting on the terrace, when a big one hit close, looked like on the other side of the arroyo, was too bright to tell if it hit the neighbors' houses or what. You're up on a knoll, more attractive than some of your lower neighbors.

Maybe the camera, if on fully automatic, sensed a difference in light intensity, and adjusted at that time ??.
Probably a stupid question, but then, it wouldn't be my first one.

It's as good an answer as I could come up with Ed...

OMG....One of my hard & absolute contractual requirements was that my entire electrical system was grounded. But I'll be damned if I can tell you how/IF that was accomplished. Since you-know-who was my contractor, I'll bet you're not willing to bet that was done in a correct manner, huh?

If I have one, it's probably tied in to my waterbed somehow!

Guess I gotta go stand outside in my foil hat when we get lightening, huh, though I'd much prefer you-know-who to be chained to a metal pole & hold the ground rod!

note to self....add to legal list!

Don't get your knickers in a knot yet. Like our first contractor, he started off impressively and may have done it then.....I'll see if I can sweet talk the boss into going over and taking a look.

Heard a rumble this afternoon, sky darkened, looked like it was pouring in parts of La Paz.....8 drops hit the pool....we have a week or so.... probably no real biggie to ground you.

And here I thought it was the BOSS posting here! My knickers don't look anything like this

Oh great....my buzzer will ring & the he boss will stand at my front door & yell "YOU'RE GROUNDED!"

Seriously, it'd be nice of him to check it out for me, but I've never noticed any wires leading to a piece of planted rebar anywhere around my property.

Same rumbles and nasty sky downtown. We had a light rain for maybe five minutes, then it blew over. Looked to me like the worst of it was over in El Centenario!
