Post For Mexican cartels, marijuana is still gold (McClatchy Newspapers)

McClatchy Newspapers - CORRE COYOTE, Mexico — Times are good for the dope growers of the western Sierra Madre mountains. The army eradication squads that once hacked at the illicit marijuana fields have been diverted by the drug war that's raging elsewhere in Mexico.

I find it interesting that with respect to California Prop 19, the legalization of marijuana, the opposition is taking shape. Probably the major opposition group now boasts as co-chairs Dianne Feinstein and LA County Sheriff Lee Baca. In a recent interview, Baca expressed the feeling that should the initiative pass, there will be an actual surge in black market trafficking. So, while the pot growers in No Cal are trying to figure out how they will proceed, the Mexican cartel folks will seemingly engage in a price war. Personally, I think the fundamental obstacle is and will be federal law.

Will prove interesting...

"For the first time, a California Court of Appeal has ruled that state-compliant distribution of medical marijuana is not preempted by federal law. This means that local officials can no longer hide behind federal law when prohibiting dispensaries in their communities. It also affirms the validity of existing state law and cites the Attorney General's guidelines in bolstering the legality of dispensing collectives."

My opinion on this is quite simple. If we are going to ban marijuana, we need to do the same with cigarettes and alcohol. Otherwise we are truly just blowing smoke...

None should be regulated... if one wants to anything with their body.. they should be able too... believe that was what the Roe v. Wade ruling was all about...

I totally agree. Even if we don't like what somebody wants to do with their own body, it isn't the governments business to stick their nose in.

Freedom includes the right to be stupid...
