Deportees are linked to Mexico crime rate-SD Union Tribune
"..."They think everyone should fear them," said Jose Alfredo Silva Perez, who oversees the Tijuana police department's anti-graffiti and gang unit. "They go around with their shirts off showing their tattoos, and sometimes if they are drugged they can be aggressive."..." I don't think that's such a bad thing. Good idea for tourists/resident Americans/just about anybody in Tijuana/Rosarito/Ensenada and other border areas: Quote:
...Ronald Smith, who oversees detention and removal operations for the agency's San Diego office, said Mexico needs to take responsibility for its citizens. "They can't be allowed to remain in our communities where they have the potential to commit even more crimes," he said. Gutierrez already had a criminal record in the United States when he was convicted in 1993 of using a gun to steal money and jewelry from a couple, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records... ...deported from prison to Mexicali on Aug. 14, 2001...deported again to Mexico on Nov. 13, 2002. A few days later, he tried once more to cross into the United States at Calexico, but he was caught..." |

Talk about a wake up call.... released from prison in the United States.. and driven to the border in a bus, and then escorted out of the States into Mexico...
![]() ![]() Now that is a reality check... big time...

There has been some criticism from circles in Mexico that these violent criminals are deported off the bus at San Ysidro with migrant farm workers caught in ICE raids. There have been requests for some coordination with authorities south of the border to process those with a criminal records to at least create some paper trail on them before they disappear into the community. Up until now those requests have gone unanswered according to a recent report I watched on the news down here.
Our family in Tijuana tells us that many of those same deportees are now joining up with gangs in Tijuana and the three major gangs that have formed are taking over entire blocks of downtown in the Revolution area. Business there now must really be hurting...

Much of the tourist related business along Revo is long gone. I can sympathize with those living near the border. Perhaps, if the two countries worked out a cooperative program where they could transfer the criminals to serve their time in Mexico, then Mexico could have better control over their whereabouts.

That makes sense which of course also means it probably won't happen...

Of the 18.5K slated for deportation most will be back in the US commiting crimes within a month. Great Idea No supervision.
I'm sure Chuck Levitin has some brillant insight on this issue. What do you say Chucky and whats up with San Diego Superior case number GIN044854? ![]() |

Nope not a reality check at all, they aren't going to all be sent at one time, the majority will be back in the states within a week or two at best, so in that aspect things will continue as always when these guys are deported. Plus they will not all be dumped at San Ysidro they will be spread out at various entry points. Again, this is nothing new, just the US making another statement that will end up meaning just more of the same old thing.
