Default Lurking long enough

Hello!
Came across this website from BN, last year but find myself returning here more often. Love the positive vibes.
Husband and I are still employed in San Diego so we are part-timers here in Rosarito area.
We are addicted to the people and lifestyle down here. Looking forward to eventually getting a place further South (warmer!) when I hit retirement age. But Northern Baja will have to do until then. Husband makes a day trips here often to surf as he is not good about sharing waves. I am a weekender for the most part.
We split our weekends between Mammoth Lakes and Rosarito as the mountain really calls my name.
Looking forward to dialogue with people from this forum as I have learned much from other Baja forums!

Welcome to the forum Lori! We have a lot in common as until a short time ago I also had a big mountain cabin up in Sequoia. It was just too far though and too hard to maintain, especially when we are still working to get our place down here finished.

So what parts further south are you guys thinking about???

Good question about how far South?
We are still undecided (probably why we are still in SADM)

I want to spend more time South of San Quintin and see what the options are. So far we have only looked North of you We put in an offer on a lot at Shipwrecks but the ejido had not finished the paperwork to allow for fideos at the time and my husband got cold feet with the process. I was not wild about being in that remote of a place as I knew I would never drive down by myself.

We like Cabo but I hate the idea of having to fly and we have a large dog that is not fond of being crated.

So it looks like we will be doing some road trips to look at other locations. Surf is going to be a high priority to my husband. Halfway decent roads, restaurants and ability to drive there a higher priority for me.

Any ideas??

Welcome. Hello. And now... You made mention of some place warmer. Truth is that owing to the curents and the prevailing winds, you will really not find a warmer place in BC. The temps are pretty much the same from the border all the way down to Guerrero Negro. If you want warmer, you're going to have to consider the Sea of Cortez side of Baja. And curious about your reference about Cabo and needing to fly. While anyplace from Santa Rosalia South will provide you with a wamer experience, fact is that if you plan to spend any extended periods of time, Cabo is a doable three day drive.

Yeah - we rented a place there for a few years until mid 2009. We probably crossed paths several times and never knew it....

San Antonio Del Mar. It's a good sized houseing community on the beach side of the toll road just north of Rosarito.

Thanks, I've seen signs for it passing through Rosarito. That's a nice area.

It has it's days. From time to time, the area generates some good as well as bad press.
Even from the road, the place looks too congested for me. I'd have trouble living like that.
Just my observation.

We loved SADM as we rented a very nice, large house there that had a killer view. Even though it was technically on the second street back from the beach, the houses right below us were much lower due to a big dip in the street below which gave us a totally unblocked view of everything. In fact you had to stretch to look out below to even see the place in front of us.

The downside as Dennis noted, is that the place is a bit congested. I didn't like the fact of having the neighbors places on each side just inches away and probably a big part of the reason why we so love all the space we have around us down here.

I always wondered about the bar stool outside outside our window...

There is another (the original) San Antonio del Mar where some Americans also have homes... West of Colonet. Read the history of the Johnson Ranch 'San Antonio del Mar' if you can!

I have been wanting to get out there and see that SADM. Another funny note is that years ago I registered the domain name - sanantoniodelmar.com - I still have it and although a few have wanted to buy it I have just kept it registered in hibernation. Someday I will do something with that domain...

SADM is just a stopping off point for us although we did just buy another home here as is was a distress sell and we are renting it. We have a house on a corner with a great view but as Ron said it is congested. Lots of people coming and going. Ron since you left one good thing happened was the Fabrizzio i(the Italian restaurant ) changed owners and is now really good and keeps expanding. Baja Malibu has also got new owners and is being reborn with lots of activity. Was "Plan B" here when you were around??

Did have the opportunity to meet Margie, I know where she lives but I keep my distance as she is not rational. I saw her turn on a good friend of ours here in SADM and make up some pretty amazing stories about him, and he is a good person that my husband has known for well for 35 years. SO please don't associate me with her!

Heading out to the Guadalupe Valley today to get stocked up for the New Year!

Happy New Years!!
