Snow In 49 States Right Now - Jan 11, 2011

A map of snowfall in the United States is revealing right now: 49 states have snow on this 1/11/11 and only one does not.

From the southern snow storm heading north, which is affecting air travel, to the pending storm in New York City, and flurries out west, there's plenty of white stuff going around.

The lone state without a flake? It's the Sunshine State...Florida. Locals are celebrating the fact, though interestingly, Jackonsville saw a dusting of snow just days ago.

Even Hawaii has snow, in Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

Have a look at the map for yourself:

CNN meteorologist Angela Fritz calls this "extremely unusual," though notes that statistics aren't generally kept on how many states have snow at the same time...

Yikes, narrow escape. I just returned to La Paz a week ago from spending the holidays in Ohio. My brother and his wife live on the gulf coast of Florida, and their temp is showing 27 degrees right now. They will NOT be happy!!

Nah. I love winter. Probably snow day in the Northeast for the kids tomorrow. And great skiing this weekend!

Right now, it's 70 here in Disneyland-adjacent, and I can go outside and see a mantle of snow atop the San Gabriels. Maybe not Baja, but not bad right now!

As a retired couple as of December 2010 and living in Minnesota for all of our lives and vacationing in Baja since 1985 we have decided to escape the winters and retire in the La Paz area. The photo below needs no explanation as to why!!

Folks need to understand that just because they may be seeing alot of snow, and baby, it's cold outside, global climate change inherently brings anomolies.

I suppose if you believe he could actually see the San Gabriel mountains from Disneyland, you might believe in global warming (40 years in So. CA experience)

Don't know how long you have been away. I recall some really bad air back in the last part of the 20th century. But, the forces that be have actually done a commendable job at improving air quality. There are a zillion stats to prove it. Me no lie. Last week, I was at the corner of Sepulveda and Rosecrans (El Segundo. Manhattan Beach line) Going to Fry's after having been at LAX. It was an unobstructed view of the snowcapped mountains. Absolutely clear. Same yesterday here in OC.

I lived through some really awful air back in the 70s and 80's. It is really better these days. Why on earth would I lie about this?

I was only jerking your chain. No one is more proud of the progress that So. Cal. has made in cleaning up the air than I am. I lived in Laguana for many years and know how many more days you can see Catalina now than even 20 years ago. Smog did make for some unbelievable sunsets sometimes though.
