Default Vehicle Permit 2011

Buen dia para todos ustedes,

Vehicle Permits,

I'm getting different information, I read in a Lonely Planet book on Mexico that the holo on my mini-van is to make sure I don't sell it without paying an import fee,so not a skinny place to squeeze through. Someone else said that it's different because I'll be set up for camping with my vehicle. Yet another source suggests that it only matters if you go below the border between Norte and Sur.. Is there an update from '09?

Thanks,
M&M

If youi intend to stay in Baja you dont need no stinking vehicle permit you only need one on the mainland.
if you import your car to Baja you will still need a permit to take it to the mainland, go figgure.
So if you plan to import do it Nationaly then you can go anywhere in Mexico

M&M, Baja.....both Norte & Sur....is a "free zone". Temporary Import Permits are not required in Baja. This is different from mainland where all but very limited border areas require Temporary Import Permits. For all of Baja, basic rule of thumb is if you're here legally, then your vehicle is here legally. One caveat is if you're here on an FMM & you leave Baja, by law your vehicle must leave with you....no personal possessions can be left behind unless you have a FM3 or FM2. There are different rules & laws for Baja in many instances than apply to mainland Mexico. It's wise to research the hell out of things & then ask for confirmation for the specific area you're going to than assume everything you read applies to Baja & mainland Mexico equally....i.e., your reference of "Yet another source suggests that it only matters if you go below the border between Norte and Sur." does not apply to vehicles in Baja....but it might well apply to something other than vehicles.

The stinking thing was a poor attempt at trying to be funny

I read that as humor....I was still composing when you posted, so I hadn't seen your post until after I hit the post button....so there was no stinkin' intent on my part whatsoever to pick on your choice of words!

Well, I need the vehicle and I'm not planning to leave Baja. Everything else is personal or camping stuff. I don't own anything objectionable or valuable enough to tax! I'll get the Mexican Auto Insurance and bless my stars to get to the doorstep in one piece! 'Thanking the Universe for safe and uneventful journeys!

Is "stinking" a curse word there?

I love seeing y'all be playful! Thanks!

"We don't need no Stinking Badges" is an iconic line from "Blazing Saddles", which pretty much shows the level of intellect we try to bring to the discussion here. It's why I love it so...
