Hmmm... Right about then might be a nice time for a getaway to celebrate getting all our projects done here!

If that was one of my favorite get-away's, I'd be really bummed having it exposed to the world. Nothing good ever comes of these events other than putting some $$ in the sponsor's pocket and causing more crowded conditions in the future.

There was quite a bit of that sentiment there some time ago , but sailing/kiting is a little different than just plain old surfing as we know it.

The main thing that makes surfers edgy is having to sit in one spot; waiting for a decent set wave(and there are usually only a few of them at a time.) Add a bunch of people you don't like who paddle past/around and don't share... Yeah. We all know what that's like.

That's why we sit a bit inside, let the loggers/broomers slide by, and then jump down the face on top of them, eh?

When you're kiting/sailing, you cannot stay still. That right there tends to spread things out. Yes, the better guys time it; hang inside, and crank a turn right on to the face of the best set waves.

But there is much more maneuverability being powered up, and the waves there tend to section mushily down-the-line. So if someone is gittin' on your nerves, you can either hit the gas and head for another section of lip, or point up into the wind until the other guy blinks and does the former.

Even when it's crowded it is rare to have some guy's butt hanging right in the pocket in front of you(like is the bane when shortboarding a grinding little pocket.) It just ain't like that kiting/sailing.

I guess, when you think about it, kiting and sailing are a bit different. Always moving. Not like surfing where of 30 (or the case when I used to surf Trestles 50 or 60) guys sitting elbow to elbow, trying to outmaneuver each other to catch the few waves that come in.

I wonder if I'm too old to take up Kiteboarding

We are never too old. Just keep your expectations in check and you will do fine...

You know where that place is that picks up about {5:00} in the vid?


Looks to be right where Mike Younghusband and Don Kay spent the night of November 16th. That little point you see in the background is just south of the fish camp.

That's one part of the coastline I haven't explored yet. We are putting together a weekend trip in November with some friends down here to almost that very same area - just a few clicks away. Might just make a side trip down to San Carlos...
