Default Green Tide

This green tide has been developing for a few days. It's supposed to be harmless, but it sure looks nasty

Ick. Didn't you just have a red tide? Must feel almost like Christmas by now! Gotta wonder what's causing all this.

It may be harmless to humans but wreaks havoc with our abalone...

Thank goodness you don't have it. If that's the case, it's sitting right on top of one of the most productive abalone areas around here. Can't be doing much good. Abalone is (was?) a very lucrative business in this area.

This happens every spring. The winds start, the water temp drops (this year 52 degrees), then the red tide moves in.

This season was much worse than normal. Just before the green tide started, and as the red tide was fading, it began to smell like a sewer. The smell was up to a mile inland it was so bad. Never seen (smelled) that before. We had to sleep with our windows closed it was so bad. Close to the beach it made my eyes burn. That's partly why we went up to La Paz for the week. It was nasty. At least the green tide doesn't stink.

Yuk!! If that persists, you might wanna double check the actual routing of your black water septic pipes! You surf in that water?

On the other hand, there are people making big bucks off that red tide/green tide algae stuff:
