A current? First, the article is not specific as to where this happend. But, over time, the vast majority of tourists falling prey to the ocean have happened on the Pacific side in Cabo San Lucas. Mostly on the broad beach that is shared by such resports as Solmar, Playa Grande and Finesterra. Those incident happened as a result of rogue waves, given that in that area, there is open ocena all the way to Antartica.
Up by San Jose, there's just not that measure of exposre to those occasional rogue waves. |

Solmar rocks; HARD.
You'd better be READY for it. I've read here and there that hotel security will come out and flag you off if you even try nowadays. This was a pro/organized contest. Check this pic out; on the very left edge you can see dry beach. On some days a long time ago there we'd play a game to see how far you could run inside a tube before it picked you off. Not very far, it turns out. |

Those photos were taken right in front of the Solmar Hotel in Cabo. Enterprising folks can actually scale the rocks in the background and get to Lover's Beach near lands end. Some years ago I did it. No mas.
That is the area I refernced with respect to rogue waves. Only those of great physical dexterity or with severe mental conditions should even think about entering the water in that area. By the way, the hotel building shown is just about brand new. Until recently, the old Solmar consisted of two story structures. So much for that pristine beach. |
