"Ron Hoff/Bajagringo attacked

Hi Nomads,

In a bit of shock here, I just learned from a good friend of Rons , that yesterday he was attacked by a group of burglars near his home in San Quintin. Apparently he saw a group of people near a neigbors house which was unoccupied. When he went to investigate he was attacked by up to 7 guys, when his Wife Christina went to investigate they cut her throat. Luckily another neigbor saw this and called the police, apparently they caught these pieces of chit, but now both Ron and his Wife are in critical condition at a hospital in Ensenada (sorry I don't know which). His daughter has been notified. Could someone in Ensenada please try to find out which hospital? Lets all keep our fingers crossed that both pull through! He has an indominable spirit which I hope will serve him well in this horrible crisis!

Can't recall, Martin, but wasn't Ron in the Navy? The question of Vet status came up on Nomad along with a lot of other things no one can answer..

Please pray for a full recovery for them both... I am shocked and sad for this to happen to such a wonderful person and his wife.

This is overwhelming news.

Marty..........I'm not sure you're watching the Nomad board, but I just posted this hoping you may have some ideas:

Dr Janene just called after being at Del Carmen. The hospital is telling of a man and wife who are with Ron and Cristina. I'm assuming it's the people who came north with them. The woman is hanging with Cristina and the man is at Del Carmen, but had stepped out so Janene couldn't grill him.
The hospital is virtually unmanned today and there are no surgeons in waiting. It wouldn't matter since the hospital can't make a move without family consent and their contact info is being kept a guarded secret by the man who has it....whoever he is.

Cristina has family in Tijuana, but I have no idea what they're up to.

It's Dr. Js professional opinion that Ron has to be taken to the states immediatly due to the lack of diagnostic tools in the local system. Very few MRI machines.
It is also her opinion that Del Carmen will oppose this idea as Ron is a cash-cow. She says the facility is grossly inadaquate.

Dr. J can't understand why he wasn't taken to the border when he was transported, if his life was their primary concern.....who knows.


Perhaps Marty Cortez at TalkBaja, I know he's following this, could get in touch with Ron's family so things can proceed. It's all in their hands at this point.

Prayers for Ron and Cristina that they get the proper care. This is a horrible and senseless tragedy. Ron was smart security-wise and it is hard to figure out why and how this situation got out of control. Tweekers? Just senseless to do this to two great people.

Hard to believe. If anyone hears of a need for transportation for family from San Diego to TJ/Ensenada please contact me.

Family consent is the #1 issue to enable transport stateside.

I do not have any contact info for him save an expired cell# I just tried from almost a year ago.

I don't know who his daughter is, and recall being told his mom lives in/near Bakersfield.

OK Rons daughter just posted on facebook a few minutes ago so I posted that it was important for her to contact the hospital ASAP to give consent to treat Ron

Ron's location is the Sanatorio del Carmen in Ensenada. Latest info from the Baja Nomads board is that he is holding his own and does not need blood. Waiting for the daughter to call and give permission for treatment

This is horrible.

Dennis, just scratching for ideas here, can the US Consulate in TJ step in and get him to the VA in San Diego?

If there is anything I can do, let me know --we are only 4 hours away !!!

Yessica has made contact with the hospital here and they have started treating him, how i'm not sure but at least we know that she has touched base and is possibly on her way down
