Default Beer, breweries and brewing

Hi all,
Will be moving to Rosarito in the spring and as my main hobby is beer, (I am an avid homebrewer and I drink the "occasional" pint as well) was wondering what the local beer scene is like. Are there any small breweries in Baja that make decent beer? and any homebrew clubs in there area?.
Will be continuing to brew and from what I have discovered looks like I will be schlepping my ingredients over the border myself, just hope the drug dogs do not have a nose for hops.

Welcome to TalkBaja, John. I don't think you'll see many drug dogs going south, so you're safe on that point.
Craft brewing is starting to get popular down here and there's the Old Mission Brewery here in Ensenada that makes a half dozen different types. They're also in the process of expanding to an on-sale bottling operation close to Hussong's.
Speaking of Hussong's....one of the younger generation is getting into the craft brewing business as well, and I'm sure there are others.
You, being in Rosarito, will be closer to TJ and I'm sure there's a lot of activity there as well. In fact, there's a recent entry to the beer market, TJ or Tijuana something-or-other.......you'll see it in the stores. I've tried it and like it a lot.
Good luck.

Don't know why your link doesn't work, Ron. Try this:

Thanks for the replies, I actually had TJ's Moreno on tap at La Taberna in Ensenada, was pretty tasty. Was going to try to find old mission brewery the same day but the band started playing, the beer kept coming and after awhile it just didn't seem that important anymore, oh well next time.
Good point on the direction of the drug trade, looking forward to brewing my first batch beer in Baja.

We were at Smart and Final yesterday when I saw the beer mentioned here so passed the word on to my husband that it sounded good.(also, handsome packaging) They have dark and blonde and it was posted at $68p for a sixpack. Looked at the bill after paying and it was really only $48p. Now that's a deal for good beer. Too bad I don't like beer!

Old Mission Brewery is located at 6th and Castillo...........Pizza is OK, burgers are so-so.

You might also want to try Icarus Wings, located on the right side of Ambar about 1/2 mile south of Reforma. Directly across from Los Amigos Liquors and a Vet's office. They are serving local craft beers......just the thing to go with their outstanding burgers!!!!

I've been exploring this myself for the Puerto Vallarta area.
Ingredients seem to be the kicker but there is at least one major brewery in the area so maybe there is a way.
As far as hops goes, well, it grows like a "weed" so I may just grow my own!
