Default High Speed internet in Ensenada

I just rented a house near Estero beach. I have been searching & trying to find out where to get high speed internet service with no luck.
I will be running my business parttime down here & need the highest speed service i can get.

But, really looking who to call about getting everything installed. Directv & high speed internet.

Telnor, the telephone company, has DSL........check around with some of the full timer ex-pats at Estero Beach Resort. You will need to go to the Telnor office in town to sign up.

For TV, you can get Direct or Dish Network if you have an account in the states. Just bring your receiver(s) down with you and get a dish with LNB's set up.

Another option for TV is the "Dream Box" type of system, uses a Dish Network 500 dish. You buy the receiver, have it programmed and hook it up to your computer (wired or wireless) for updates. Plenty of channels (most of the Dish Network free and pay) and inexpensive.

For dish install or Dream Box, and possibly DSL info/advice, the guy (Marco) has a shop just up the street from you on Jose Morelos, between 1st and 2nd.

If you are interested, I can get you his phone number.

PS: For great tacos, try Tacos Poblano on 3rd (Lupe Novelo)....the street that goes into the Estero Beach Resort.....between Lazaro Cardenas and Jose Morelos......the quesotacos are great!!!!!

Yep....Telnor is the best you can hope for. They have different grades of DSL, along with different prices.
Best you go to town and have a chat with them.

Sometimes Telnor might slow down a little... this was a record I kept just for laughs...

Overall it worked just fine ... watch Netflix movies most of the time I was down... using the Telnor connection, along with iChat with both audio and video ... between the "states" and Baja ..

A couple of months ago Telnor had a special offering free installation (normally $125.00) of telephone and internet service at $35.00 us dollars a month. You must keep the service active for 6 months or pay a penalty. Just ask Telnor for any specials they might have available.

If you go the telnor route which is a good option talk to your land lord. the phone will have to be in his name unless he gives up the # I know when I rented it was that way. when I bought my house I had to get a letter from the previous owner. stating they would give up the # and the phone co. gave me the same #. Telnor Dsl and vonnage makes life a lot easier,

They arn't out here in PB. In fact, this is the first time I've ever heard of them as an IP. Of course, they are, as their website indicates.
In fact...this is the first time I've ever seen the business being discussed. Let us know how your research goes on this.

Who owns Cablemas? Televisa.

Who owns Televisa? Amongst others, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Follow the money. I don't know why....just follow it. It'll give you something to do.

So Microsoft is backing Enrique Peña Nieto? Rumor down here is that Televisa is a big supporter of PRI in the coming general elections July 1st.

As far as internet, when I lived up in Rosarito I got a package from Telnor that gave me the fastest DSL available as well as a good deal on phone service (if you make a lot of LD calls). I haven't been on Telnor for three years but friends up in Rosarito tell me that the speed has improved in the last year or so...

Telnoir has three different packages for DSL. I call it good, better, and best. the locals call it slow, slower, and slowest. The better package rivals my $14.00 ATT DSL package here in El Monte. I pay $550.00 pesos for my la mision telephone, dsl and as a bonus I get 1 hour worth of united states calls. If you use skype you will need a good dsl package to have clear phone calls over the internet.

Vonage and Magic Jack are just phone systems, not internet. You may possibly get an air card from Movistar that "may" work where you rent......should be ok in Punta Banda for internet......however, probably won't work with Vonage or Magic Jack........uh, one word of caution.......if you "work" in Mexico, you will have to obtain the proper level FM-3 or FM-2 to be legal.......not everybody does, but just a word of caution.

Since I have W2s, would I still need to worry about FM? My work has nothing to do with where I live, there would be nothing traveling across the border including pay checks . . . Hadn't thought about this before.

What's a W2???

An FMM is a Mexician Immigration Tourist Card, good for 180 days in the country

You will be living in Mexico........so you will be working in Mexico

FM 3 and FM 2 are resident visas.....not for tourists..........and if you are in Mexico on an FMM (Tourist) you should be a tourist, not working.....or so they say

Good reading..............

Mexico

From a commercial site explaining Mexican Visas:

A W-2? Well that is a U.S.federa tax thingy:
W-2

The Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, is used to report wages paid to employees and the taxes withheld from them. Employers must complete a Form W-2 for each employee to whom they pay a salary, wage, or other compensation as part of the employment relationship. An employer must mail out the Form W-2 to employees on or before January 31. This deadline gives these taxpayers about 2½ months to prepare their returns before the April 15 income tax due date. The form is also used to report FICA taxes to the Social Security Administration. The Form W-2, along with Form W-3, generally must be filed by the employer with the Social Security Administration by the end of February. Relevant amounts on Form W-2 are reported by the Social Security Administration to the Internal Revenue Service.

Generally self-employed folks get 1099s or file under a different criteria. In my business however, I get W-2s (most of the time) that according to tax law means I am not taxed as a self-employee. My employer bares the shared tax burden with me.

Make sense?
