Hi Sal. I once lived down the road from Playas and know the area fairly well. Your best bet is to personally canvas the area - the best rentals will at best have a sign on the door/window. Get a pay-as-you-go Telcel phone and spend a few days walking the neighbourhoods, talking to people and asking questions.

We moved to TJ about 1 year ago and started with a cheap rental of $350 for about 8 months to see if we would like it here, you see I speak spanish and love the Mexican culture.

In March we began looking for a place in Playas and we drove around and looked for "For Rent" signs on the places. If you have a Mexican prepay phone you can call them at that moment and most of the times they will come show you the place. We did go a few times but we got our place by driving and calling.

You can get small places from about $200-up depending on what you are looking for an apartment or house. We found a 5 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house with garage and back yard and laundry room to boot. Our rent was $700 per month plus utilities so it is such a deal compared to San Diego also we are only 1 block from the beach.

We love it here there is Cineplex Movies ($3.50 per person), Carls Jr., Dominos Pizza, KFC, and even a Little Caesars. There is quite a diverse population here with a lot of Americans and I do feel safe and LOVE IT HERE!
