Hello Im BigWooo. My wife, Oladulce and I have been visiting Baja for 20 something years now with the goal of living there someday. If everything goes well someday will be this year. Preparing to move to Baja is no easy task. Its amazing how much there is to do. We should have started months earlier.
Well actually be located in BCS where our home will be completely off grid. Since theres no one close to install or maintain solar power systems, we spent a lot of time learning about them (we also plan to install an automated grey water re-use system and utilize solar water heating). We designed and installed the solar power to phase 1 of our project and plan to do the same for the second half. Since were pretty remote, it was important for me to understand our system in case I needed to troubleshoot any problems that might arise (with any luck, there wont be any). Were looking forward to moving, but its going to be interesting living in a construction zone for our first year or so in Baja Im looking forward to this forum and hope to have something to contribute, good luck BajaGringo |

Glad to have you onboard BigWooo. personally, I am very interested in your system you are building. I sat in a meeting with the secretario del gobierno in San Quintin and although it looks like we should have CFE out our way later this year, I am still considering an off-grid system. It sounds like you have given this a lot of thought and if you have the opportunity, I would enjoy (and learn from) a thread you could post on how you researched / sized / designed your system. Especially if you have some photos to share. I created a forum just for that topic:
Off-Grid / Solar, Wind or Generator? http://www.talkbaja.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105 BigWooo's Calculating Solar Power Needs Thread http://www.talkbaja.com/showthread.php?t=70 Look forward to sharing with you here on the forum... I'll definitely post. I understand you're currently involved in construction of your home. If you anticipate even the possibility of using solar, if it's not too late, I would run conduit through the walls from where you anticipate you might mount panels (flat roof, or southern exposure) to the location where your batteries would be (an area with outside ventilation).

Some dead links that didn't carry over in the software upgrade. I appreciate you letting us know where/when that happens...
