I am a former member of the message board bajanomad.com and I would like to communicate to you some information about an important citizens movement. The other board will not allow me to start a new ID so I am posting here so that people may see this.

We the citizens of Baja California Sur are battling against the forces behind the opening of casinos in our state. Currently there are six permitted casinos operating in BCS, three are in Los Cabos, two are in La Paz and one is in ciudad constitucion. There is one being proposed for Loreto.

Because the size of our town is so small and will not be able to handle the problems that follow the opening of casinos, we started a citizens movement called "Loretanos no a Casino". since our movement started less than one month ago, we have garnered the attention of the municipal, state and federal governments. We have attracted local, state and national press and it is quite possible that our movement will not only put a halt to further openings of casinos in our state, but also in our nation. What better publicity for our town than to show off the beauty of the area and the fine people who care about protecting the tranquility and peace that we are so lucky to have.

In addition we have a symbolic online petition that you may sign and comment on. Even if you are not a Mexican citizen this online petition is perfectly legal to sign. This is because it will not be officially presented to our government but it will show our symbolic support. If you live in Mexico but are not a Mexican citizen you invested money and time and your emotions to be here and you have every right to have your voice be heard.

Not to worry, if you check out our Facebook page or website you will see the article where your State Government has legislated against the opening of any new casinos. So you're safe...as are also the states of Estado de Mexico, Coahuila, and Nuevo Leon. So its up to the citizens to help direct our governing persons decisions and that's what we're currently doing.
