Awesome Ron,
Some guy on MexConnect just sent me the exact same thing! Helps to check Google.mx apparently. I guess the lease has to be in pesos to be legal.... is that correct? I will be paying my landlord in US$ regardless. I just need this to have myself ready to hit the ground running for my FM2 application when I get there so the more documentation I have the better. |

Some people do a lease in English and Spanish but only the Spanish one is legal and recognized if it goes to litigation. I have heard differing views on expressing a rental amount in dollars - you might want to check on that one...

Well, we already have a written agreement... don't know if it is enforceable for anything but he's a cop, I'm a fireman..... we have good rapport..... famous last words, right ![]() If there is litigation I will walk and he can have my deposit. I think tenants have so many more rights than landlords, anyway. But, that is not our purpose and all the properties managed by his manager are notoriously trouble free and well maintained. We are pretty damn lucky. Anyway, he is stoked to be having someone living in his house instead of trying to holiday rent it, pay all the managers and maintenance people, etc, while the real estate market is in the shitter. Plus, he is in Minnesota and I will be there. He and his girlfriend were pretty ecstatic about the arrangement and have been super accommodating. Heck, even his property manager has been helping us out! I already love this small town and we aren't even permanent yet. ![]() |

After my first year's lease down here expired we went to just a handshake agreement with our landlord up in Rosarito. They are great people and treated us very, very well. Any contract - oral or written - always comes down to the quality of the people in the agreement.
I sense you are a good judge of character and that goes a long ways down here...

I think you may be looking for a rental agreement rather than a lease. What good would a thirty day lease be anyway? It would expire before you got done reading it.

I just want it for FM2 purposes. Other than that it's a handshake agreement. I need proof of residency. |

Although it gives you no long guarantee to live on the property, a month-to-month rental agreement can stipulate other important items like who is responsible for what in the agreement (water/gas/electric/cable/maintenance, etc), how much time to be notified to vacate and how the deposit will be handled.

Turns out I can, most likely, get the management company that I will be taking over for to just give me copies of the CFE bills and it sounds like that is better for INM anyway. LEARNING CURVE AHEAD! ![]() |
