Confused Funeral - What if I die in Baja / Mexico?

This may be a dumb question but I am curious. If an American lives here in TJ and dies here ,can that person be buried here in TJ? Are funerals (caskets, plots) cheaper here than in USA. A burial in USA starts at about $5000.00 USD.

They'll bury or cremate you here. I don't have a price list but, I'm sure you can get it done far more reasonably than in the states.
If you really want to do it on the cheap, you could leave an advance directive to have your body dumped on Blvd. 2000. The city will do the rest.

I told my wife and friends that when my time comes they should just drag me outside to a big oceanfront rock, douse me with something flammable and set me aflame.

7,000 pesos can buy a lot of Cadillac Margarita's...

Only if I can drink it all, while still coherent before giving up the ghost...

Low temperature fire is not what you want. Besides, I'm assuming that once your new hacienda is completed, you will be spending that money on cadillac margaritas while hosting your housewarming, no?

I know this isn't a pleasant subject but I thought I would bring this up. I just found a doctor here in San Quintin that I like and will become my new, primary physician. I post this as a reminder to those of you living down here that having a personal physician here is not only very handy, it makes things much easier for your family to deal with your remains after passing. I suppose that day will come eventually, even for me!

Gringos living down here that still go north of the border for all of their health care may leave a bureaucratic hassle behind for their loved ones to deal with to handle their final arrangements.

You can still go wherever you want for health care but having a physician of record here is a MUST HAVE in my book, if not for yourself, at least for those who will make your arrangements.

And have a nice day!

Good point, legs. It seemed like this thread died almost three months ago, and then, up jumps the devil! Probably just too many of those libations BG has made famous.

Thanks, BG. Getting set up with a physician is one of those things I keep meaning to do but continue to put off. I'll be like, "Oh, damn, I ate shrimp again and my cholesterol will test high."

Actually I am feeling pretty good - working on the house I have lost over 30 pounds and two pant sizes these past few months. It is amazing how losing that extra weight gives you more energy and less back pain...

The subject came up in email with some folks who just moved down to the Ensenada area and I thought it would be good to bring it up here on the forum. I remembered this thread and thought I would tag it on...

Kate - I think we all hate going to the doctor to some degree but I actually "hate it less" down here. I have found it usually means shorter waits and more quality time with a doctor who doesn't seem in hurry to get to the next patient waiting. I never had a doctor north of the border give me his home number and cell number and tell me to call him anytime something came up and I needed his help either.

Medicine is a science practiced by artists and I have found that they usually paint with warmer colors this side of the border...

Just remember how much better you look & feel today once the construction is done & you have more spare time for Caddie Margies. It'd be a shame if got to be a butterball & the snakes could catch you without breaking a sweat!
