A good friend (Baja bureaucrat) predicted to me a few years ago that by 2025 (nearly) the entire peninsula will have pavement to communities with populations > 250 and the toll road will follow the entire length to the tip.
We'll see...

I wonder what the total cost of tolls will be for a trip down the entire peninsula when they are through.

Yeah, I remember that back then it was considered a luxury to be able to take the nice toll road. On it you could make the DF-Acapulco road trip in less than four hours. On the libre it could take over 6 and as much as 7 to 8 hours and longer with heavy weekend/holiday traffic...

BajaGringo,
I was working in the outskirts Mexico City when they were at the tail end of that highway. We would make a extended weekend trip to Acapulco or Cuernavaca atleast once a month on the old road with white knucle rides. Still working in Mexico City and several years after they opened that highway it gave us a whole bunch more time to PARTY in Acapulco. The bridge that crosses that gorge is truly impresssive. Memories. ![]() |
