Default 30 Bancomer Bank customers robbed in Rosarito Beach yesterday.

This Bancomer branch is for their "Preferred Customers" ($100K plus accounts) and is located on the north end of Rosarito across the parking lot from Office Depot. Forget bank robbing- this is customer robbing.

Similar incidents in La Paz last fall.

Looks like they choose a time when clients are likely to be carrying large sums of money for deposit? I suppose going for the clients is less risky and more likely to succeed than trying to rob the bank itself.

and by robbing the "Preferred" branch customers- they robbed only the wealthiest customers- so not much public uproar.

Are you sure they weren't making a movie? That ghost town studio is still there, isn't it?
Yep....I think they were making a movie.

Our niece works in a nail salon that was held up a few months back by two jerks. After they emptied the cash register they moved on to make all the employees and clients empty their purses in addition to removing any jewelry they were wearing. Before they left the store one of them noticed the new sneakers my niece was wearing and took them too.

I personally would love to squeeze the life out of those two with my bare hands.

Would you believe it happened again today? Same exact robbery type, same branch and at 11:30am on a Monday no less. Just the customers were robbed again. The robbers must have done well 10 days ago and went back for seconds. That's what happens when the crooks aren't caught. I'll bet business at at the Bancomer Preferred Customer branch drops off a tad... Wonder if it's the same security guard? (More ambulances again this time- someones gonna have a heart attack)

Oh, that so sucks. You're right - business is sure to drop off with that track record. I wonder if there were any customers involved who happened to be there the last time around. That would be extremely bad luck...

Since no one was caught yet, should we start a poll for when it will happen again?
I should think the crime rate would go down faster if the crooks were caught once in a while, huh?

Actually, based on my experience, catching them does nothing for the crime rate, but shooting them does!!!

Agreed. Crime rates are probably more of a social economic symptom than directly related to arrest/conviction stats. Proof of that is in the drug war Mexico has been fighting for the last decade. The police and military can kill/arrest ten bad guys but the next day there are a hundred more lining up, ready and willing to take their place.

And they are usually more ruthless than the previous bad guys.

In my years of living down here I have had the opportunity to get to know quite well some very old farming and ranch families here on this stretch of the peninsula. They have told me quite frankly how they deal with thieves they catch. The first time they just "rough them up" a bit and get sent home with a stern warning. The second time they get caught they are beaten badly and left with a note in their pocket what will happen if they are caught again. If the thief is stupid enough to get caught a third time, they follow up on their promise written on the note.

It is that simple - they don't bother with calling the police. It really is like the old west down here in many, many ways...

Imagine that, a Belgian crane company partners with a Mexican company and gets screwed over. The Belgian company prevails in the courts so the Mexicans threaten him and and kill him. How's that for fostering an atmosphere for international investment? They invited him to play, they didn't play fair with him and then killed him when he won. Not good.

Not so good for Italians promoting a bike event either. What country is Mexico not ticking off?

MEXICO CITY – An armed group kidnapped a man “of Italian origin” on the weekend in the central Mexican town of Amecameca, a spokesman for the Mexico state government told Efe on Monday.

The victim is a 54-year-old businessman identified as Gilberto Soliman Corollo, a spokesman for the state Public Safety Department said.

The incident occurred last Saturday night when nine men armed with long guns entered the Los Venados restaurant at the Hacienda Panoaya and seized Corollo.

Apparently, the businessman was in the area promoting the 9th bicycle race on Popobike mountain, held last weekend near the Paso de Cortes on the slopes of the Popocatepetl volcano.

The investigation of the case has been handed to the Mexico state Attorney General’s Office, which was not able to provide any further details. Sources with the Italian Embassy in Mexico also were unavailable for comment.
