Default Beach Camping in San Quintin

I get a lot of requests for suggestions on where to camp in the San Quintin area. The only place I send people is to Alvaro's, just a short distance south from us. He offers a very safe place to camp, he lives on the premises and his family brings you daily a fresh assortment of seafood delights to choose from.

It truly doesn't get any better than this...

Campo Alvaro's

How about sand beaches near you... that you can drive to in 4WD and not be in anyone's front yard?

There is a very nice, private, 5 mile long sandy beach where you can play, fish and explore. We take the dogs down there on a regular basis. On the attached image you can see it about two miles south of Campo Alvaro's...

At the corner of the military base you go west - turn left if heading north or right if heading south. What looks different now is there is a solid brick wall surrounding the military base vs the chain link fence in the image. Google needs to update their maps and google earth...

Once you take that road you will have a couple of options:

1, Follow the road all around through Bahia Falsa which is a good option if you were planning on picking up some fresh oysters

or

2. Take the route most of the locals use in yellow. It is shorter and much smoother. Downside is you need 4x4 on most days to get back to town on that route. (uphill sand)

Where the yellow begins, is there a sign or marker?

Currently no, but here are the coordinates:

Latitude: 30°30'28.33"N
Longitude: 116° 0'3.17"W

We are currently working on improving another road out that will be easier to use and we will mark that road once it is completed...

Maybe easier, what is the odometer reading from Hwy. 1 to the 'yellow brick road'? ;)

From Highway 1 to the yellow marked road turnoff your odometer should read just a hair over 4.4 miles...

negative low tides this week- great for clamming. Since I'm not legally allowed to clam, I'll buy a dozen or so from a neighbor (unless it rains) . I make baked stuffed clams a couple times a month. Being from New England- clams and lobster are a food group (abalone is a def local bonus!).

Non-Mexicans can not 'fish' for shell fish of any type (lobster, crabs, mussels, clams, oysters)... You must purchase them from a Mexican.... hopefully some will show up before dinner time!

BajaGringo, I was just out there in December. I should've swung by. That yellow line road sure is fun in that sandy stretch going up the hill. I had to walk it and carefully draw the right lines to avoid getting stuck.
