I'm a little torn about posting the grizzly narco-news stories from the Mainland, although I also post them when they are just too sensational to ignore like this one. There are already Baja websites that post all the crime news of Mexico, without posting much positive. There are other sites that only post the good news of Baja, and avoid the crime news completely. TalkBaja goes down the middle- which for the record- I support. I've posted crime news when I think it intersects with what travelers and ex-pats in Baja should know- like the customers at the Rosarito Bancomer bank being robbed while standing in line (twice). Should we post it like it is and let the readers decide which threads to read? If we post the bad news some people will call us anti-Mexico, if we post only the good news we give up the connection to the reality here.

How do you folks feels about this? Do you prefer to go to Baja News sites for the bad stuff, Baja fluff travel sites with no news- or to have a healthy mix of both?

Forwarned is forarmed. I prefer to get as much info as possible so I can make informed decisions.

If it is current Baja California crime news and security commentary you are interested in, the best place imho is Maggies Madness. It takes a lot of time to read all the local blogs and news feeds, then translate it like she does. She's an important and rather controversial source of local info. I'm sure TalkBaja members will continue to post crime/security news when the story strikes a certain chord- but Maggie does this every day and holds little if anything back. Maggie posted yesterday Ensenada had 10,000 car wrecks last year leading to 108 deaths. Today she reports the second in command for the CAF (Cartel Arrellano Felix) was arrested at a safe house where a kidnap victim was being held. She covers everything that moves down here.

I like to hear the good and the bad.... Baja and Mexico has so much going for it.... in my younger days I remember so many good times SOB,fishing, surfing, dirt bike riding, absorbing the rich culture and history, THE FOOD, I married my first wife in Nayarit.

However, driving across the border today is so different than it was years ago, the whole vibe has changed, It went from fun to fear. The drug cartels are so brutal and have no respect for human life. it is important that people be informed of whats happening in areas of mexico and know what areas to stay away from.

I pray that the drug situation will end soon, but the only way I see this happening is that they legalize it on both sides of the border...
