Default INM turnaround time Residente Documents

I dutifully trudged into the La Paz INM office on November 13, 2012, turned over all the required documents, copies, pics & information for my final Residente Temporal renewal.....I checked back in 10 days.....as instructed.

Then 2 weeks after that.....as instructed!

Then 2 weeks after that.....as instructed!

Then I got smarter.....I waited 3 weeks to check back!

Then 3 more weeks.....then a month!

To cut to the chase, I went in yesterday.....5 MONTHS (minus 1 day) later & picked up my new card! And I get to start this process all over again....for the final time for my Residente Permanente in 6 months!! My fervent hope is that by October/November 2013, they'll have fine-tuned the process down to the 10-20 days they've been quoting!

The moral of this story is that the early bird eventually gets the worm.....just not necessarily in a timely fashion!

I dropped my Visa renewal off mid January and I'm still waiting.

My wife and I have been permanent inmigrados since 2004.
This meant never having to do the renewal stuff again. The stamps are in our original FM 2 books.
Anybody know if we should try to get the new permanent cards or just leave it alone. We don't want to open a can of worms and again get involved in this immigration madness.

I carry a diminished, emboshed card in my wallet, that states my permanent status, but have no idea if this is good enough.

Don't rush the system, Ed. Some day, when they tally up all the Inmigrado card holders, multiply that number be twenty bucks, they'll make the switch mandatory.

Ed, you've already received permanent status, I'd say you're both good to go! I know you've left the country & returned & passed scrutiny with the powers that be, that tells me you're both legally permanent....or permanently legal! Just don't lose those old FM2 books or the cards in your wallets! Now get back to enjoying hassle-free retirement!

My new card mysteriously grants me "Permiso para trajabar/Permission to work".....which I did NOT apply for! I'm not going to tempt fate by mentioning this until my final Residente Permanente application. Hey! This means I can charge you BIG FEES next time I haul your buns & bags to the airport & back!

Teniente, I think now that INM has finally gotten into the flow of the new process, there's a good chance that your process flow time will be much shorter than mine. I think everyone who submitted paperwork in the first month turned out to be learning curve guinea pigs for all who followed!! I know that I've heard of some incredibly short (2-3 week!) turnaround times now that the new process is approaching the 6-month mark.

Happy to have been of service!
