Default Paying CFE bill

Hello everybody,

I am looking to draw some help from some expats with respect to paying my CFE bill. I don´t have a Mexican bank account, so online banking is not going to happen. Oxxo and other related pay locations can only accept payments if you have your most recent bill (they cannot accept payments with just the account number or an older bill). This wouldn´t be an issue if mail could be counted on...which it simply cannot.

It´s a bloody long drive each way from where I live to the closest CFE office, where I am usually presented with a further wait just to pay the bill.

Am I missing something, or is this my only option?

Thanks.

I just paid my CFE bill using my Paypal account online through a company called Mexibillpay. Easy breezy......couple clicks of the mouse...all in English....from the comfort of my house.....I think I even had a beer in hand at the time.

I did not know about MexiBillPay dot com, so this is great info. I didn't register to see pricing details, but it looks like $10 is added to your cart.

No, it looks like they charge 10% of the bill for the service - probably a typical charge for others who provide this service and very convenient for folks like the OP who would probably spend more than that in gas.

The $10.00 appears to be a payment increment and it also looks like they now accept paypal. This is from their website:

Pay CFE bill online with a USA or Canadian bank account. Here is how:

News Alert!:As of May 2013, in addition to the payment methods listed below, clients can now pay their CFE, SKY, Telcel and Telmex bills with Paypal. Submit a ticket through our helpdesk for further details.

Everytime you need your CFE bill paid, simply send us a payment from your USA or Canadian bank account. We visit the CFE office every single day they are open to remit payments for our customers.

We will physically hand a cash payment to CFE on your behalf. We will collect your CFE receipt (Actual receipt from CFE...not OXXO or a bank). We will then scan that paid receipt and make it available for you online in case you ever need proof of payment. We will continue to store all of your stamped receipts online in the same location which you can view 24 hours a day in case you ever needed to print off or inspect any receipt at a later date.

Canadian Bank Payments:
These are made simply by sending an Interac E-transfer from your Canadian bank account to our Canadian bank account. E-transfers can be accomplished by logging into your Canadian online bank account and initiating the instant transfer.

Details on how to proceed with this payment method will be displayed after an order has been placed.

Link to their Wikipedia page:
Interac e-Transfer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

USA Bank Payments:
These are made by sending a payment through an online money transfer service called Money Transfer - Send Money Online | Xoom . If unfamiliar with this great company, try Googling the term "Xoom reviews". You will find on the first page of the search results this particular link:

Xoom.com Money Transfer Reviews of 2012 2013 | Compare ratings at Review Centre

This independent website has collected over 5000 unique reviews of people's experiences using the Money Transfer - Send Money Online | Xoom service. Hopefully this should offer some confidence in the Xoom service in case you were previously unaware of their company.

Link to their Wikipedia page:
Xoom Corporation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Details on how to proceed with this payment method will be displayed after an order has been placed.

Understanding the costs:
We charge a 10% fee. We subtract that 10% after your funds have been converted from dollars into pesos.

We base the rate of exchange from the Money Transfer - Send Money Online | Xoom website.

For example: Assume a net $100 payment arrived from your bank account and the Money Transfer - Send Money Online | Xoom exchange rate for the dollar was 12.00 pesos/dollar. This would mean that we would have received 1200 pesos from you. At this point, we take our 10% fee (120 pesos). The balance of 1080 pesos would be applied in full to your chosen CFE account.

Xoom makes their money by charging an extremely small spread on the currency exchange, combined with a flat fee of $4.99 for each transaction regardless of size.

How to use our shopping cart:
The CFE portion of our website can accept payments in increments of $10. For example, if you wanted to send a payment of $150 you will need to select "15" from the drop down menu.

How to set up an account and allow us to begin paying your CFE bills on your behalf:
If this is your first time using our service simply place your first order through our shopping cart for the amount that you will be transferring. We will need you to scan and upload your most recent copy of your CFE bill. We keep that bill stored securely and simply print off a copy of that bill each time we make a payment to CFE on your behalf. Further instructions will be supplied after your first order is placed.

Only register 1 account:
Only register one account regardless how many billers or accounts you intend to pay.

When payments are actually applied to your CFE account:
Your payment will be applied within 48 hours after we have received your payment. We are only open Monday-Friday so payments received on a Friday would be applied no later than the very next Tuesday.

Timeframes to expect for transfers:
Canadian Interac E-transfers: instantaneous.
American "Xoom" transfers: instantaneous.

Note:The very first time you transfer by Xoom, it actually takes 2-4 days. They need this time to ensure the credentials provided are accurate before releasing funds. Each time you send a payment there afterwards, the funds are ready for pick up in Mexico in a matter of minutes.

Mexibillpay was created to help American and Canadian expats while they are in Mexico.

Cool Re: Paying CFE bill

100 bucks a year to sr.cuadros in Rosarito, takes care of all bills. Just deposit money to your account via bill pay. Fidecomiso, Property taxes, Cable, Cfe, Phone, Etc. Its less grief for me, and everything is always paid on time.

If your close enough to CFE main office and have your bill it's a piece of cake. Go to the machine and scan the bar-code of your bill and then feed the electric monster your Peso paper bills. solo un minuto, and your done. Unless you live 30 miles or more from a CFE location it's the easiest to just pay your bill 6 times a year with cash at an automated machine.

I agree. I used to pay at the supermarkets because there was never any parking near CFE. Now, with the machines, I can go in off hours, there's no wait, and there's even a security guard to help first-timers and anyone else who has trouble using the machines.

I find it much easier to give my neighbor $50 when I leave, and bring some tri tips or pork loins with me when I return to take care of the bills. Make friends with the people you choose to live with.

That is a great solution when you can find such good neighbors. We have similar type arrangements with close friends here who take care of our house/animals/gardens while we are on the road. We love bringing them back all the things they can't find down here. It's a win-win deal and you develop really close friendships along the way.

And welcome to the forum...
