You should exercise extreme caution trying to pull this off. In the first place, it's US registered, and.......well.....I wont even continue with the can of worms you're trying to open, but you're begging to have those vehicles confiscated.........forever.

Oh wow is it really that bad??? I used it to move all my stuff and now I'm thinking to get something more economical like a 4cyl or 6cyl but was thinking maybe sell here. A dealership in San Diego emailed me back with a quote this morning but it was WAY under what I paid for. Thanks Dennis, I will not post it on Ensenada Hoy Classifieds as I was literally a button a way from doing!!! Thanks.

I see lot's of Mexicans selling US plated cars by writing their phone numbers on the back glass, even on late model vehicles. Hard to do a private sale legally and safely. Are the bigger engined SUV's lagging in resale price right now perhaps?

Yes I saw many Audi's in downtown Ensenada with CA plates for sale. But I rather avoid another headache hehe. I haven't thought about Dealerships in Mexico yet, I'll go give one a shot today. I paid $24,000 cash for it with the trailer for the move and I know I'm not getting that back but I don't want to get TOTALLY screwed

Unless the seller is completely aware of the element he wants to dive into, he'd best avoid it.
Maybe consider these people in San Diego area:

The automobile market in San Diego is much, much larger than in Baja. I think that you are getting good advice on this forum. I believe you would be better off selling it in California.

I'd recommend craigslist/san diego

I don't know, but I bet it's exactly as Dennis says: a real good chance of having some very-unwelcome developments legal and otherwise head your way trying that.

I'm gonna smudge your license plate just in case someone can read it.

Recently deported homeboy kidnaps and robs a man who was trying to sell his truck:

http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/...98667.html

TIJUANA. - Juan Nunez Bravo, deported from the U.S. after serving a 15-year sentence in prison for murder, was arrested this afternoon by municipal police officers in the La Mesa dsitrict, along with his accomplice Marco Antonio López Espinosa.

At 1:30PM, these individuals came to a hosiery business in the Esmeralda subdivision, supposedly to buy a gray double cabin Dakota pickup.

They asked the owner to allow them to test it and he agreed. One of the thugs took the wheel, his partner was in the back seat and the owner was in the front passenger seat.

They drove to the east, along boulevard Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, and turned into an alley next to the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The man in the back seat pulled a gun and hit the owner with it, while he demanded the money he was carrying, which were about 10,000 pesos in local and foreign currency. They then got out and fled towards Boulevard Clouthier, followed by his accomplice, aboard a white Ford Lobo.

After receiving the report made by the merchant's family, police from the La Mesa dsitrict commenced an operation to locate the Dakota, which was intercepted on the old road to Tecate, at the El Florido industrial center, with support from the Los Pinos district police.

There they rescued the victim and arrested Juan Núñez Bravo and his partner Marco Antonio López Espinosa, 40 and 22 years old respectively.

Upon inspecting the vehicle they found a fake gun lying on the floor, with which they beat the owner to steal his money, which incidentally was not located.

Núñez Bravo, who has multiple body tattoos that identify him as a member of the Mexican Mafia, said that less than six months ago he was deported from the US, where he was imprisoned nearly 15 years for murder.

This individual and others recently arrested by the municipal police, for different crimes, prove that many of the people deported from the US to Mexican, far from trying, at least, to start a new life, continue their criminal activity here.

Techincally speaking, you have imported the vehicle into Baja for re-sale without Federalization or paying the 11% IVA for an import. Not good.

A reasonable person would see that you moved here and are simply putting your truck up for sale. But . .. . . no need to leave an opening for someone who is unreasonable, is there?

Craigslist San Diego is a great place to put it up for sale and it doesn't cost anything. It might seem like a bit of a pain in the neck to go to San Diego to sell it, but that would be heavenly relief compared to the alternative.

Is there some way I can repay TalkBaja.com for these "Baja for Dummies" lessons??
Thank you EVERYONE for the wonderful information! I rather lose money than bring illegal activity to my beautiful new home. A couple of dealerships have given me quotes already in San Diego and one in Los Angeles.

Another question I had, since so far these lessons are free , is it safe to ride a motorcycle around town, or have you guys heard of them getting stolen frequently? Or should I just get a car to be safe? I haven't seen any motorcycles around here yet..

Also.....we have no way of knowing whether you typically keep that trailer parked where it's shown in the pic.....but if you do, you may not have to worry about selling it for long! If it hasn't been stolen yet, it's just a matter of time. Anyone with a trailer hitch could haul that trailer off in a heartbeat! If you'd at least put a hitch lock in it, it'd slow thieves down by 3-5 minutes it'd otherwise take them to cut the lock off! Even keeping it inside your gates is no guarantee it won't be stolen.

Especially in a gated community. A $20 a day guard is worth $20 of protection. jmho. You live in Ensenada, so keep your vehicles insured in the USA and keep them within 80 miles of the border (most US policies have that limitation). If they get stolen- at least you won't cry as long or hard.

Why sell it to a dealer? They will only turn around and sell it for a couple of thousand dollars profit.

I'm sure that you can sell it yourself--I'd work all day for $2000 and I expect the dealer will try and make much more than that.

I just put it up on CL in San Diego. Let's see if I get any bites.

Yeah I know they will but its just a plan C for the dealerships. And I know I can walk away with cash and a small used car from their lot or buy a motorcycle before a make my trip back. Now its just a waiting game.

Let me give you an example of what could go wrong.
This was a while back in Ensenada, perhaps fifteen years, I knew an older couple who were well entrenched in the city....large new house and a really nice newer car, maybe a Lincoln, I forget. They also hired a full time handy man to work around the house.

One day, the worker drove the Lincoln into town to a shop and on the way was spotted by the police driving the car. They knew he was a mismatch for the vehicle, so they pulled him over and impounded the car.
Someone in the legal system decided they wanted the car, so they wouldn't return it to the owners even with proof of ownership. They flat told the old folks they wouldn't be getting their car back for a dozen different reasons, one of which was they weren't legal with immigration.
They had to hire an attorney which was from DF and unconnected to the legal network in town. You screw with one of them and you've screwed with all of them. Half of them are related and the others went to school together so they aren't going to fight against each other.

Time passed and nothing happened....... typical of these things here, until one day , I was riding my bicycle through the port area in Ensenada, and under a large shed roof was parked a couple hundred vehicles being loaded onto a freighter and headed to points south, while in the group of cars was parked my friends Lincoln almost ready to be loaded on board.
I called my friend, who called his lawyer and he had the process stopped.

When all the dust settled, it cost my friends eight thousand dollars to get the car back.

What I'm saying here is, if they like your pretty truck, and you are in any way vulnerable/naïve, while doing something wrong like selling an unnimported vehicle, you may lose it all. You may not be as fortunate as my friends.
