People are being sarcastic, but I would expect little or no crime in that area. Also not that many people. I dont think there would be much in the way of police either if there were any problems, but it is a small city so there would be someone around.

Regarding crime though, I would think that area is pretty safe in general.

michaelcdn, to the best of my knowledge, TalkBaja doesn't have any Mulege residents who are active users on this site.

I know you were looking for actual crime stats & I can't give you that. What I can & will offer is pretty much what others, some of whom are much closer to Mulege geographically, have offered. Mulege is very small & while they do have a municipal police presence, I'm guessing it'd be 1-2 officer max per shift, if all shifts are even covered. I sincerely doubt that there's police corruption/mordita there because the town is simply too small & the residents would not tolerate rampart corruption, then too, it's so small that it'd be easy for the residents to keep tabs on any bad guys/banditos & run them out of town.

GO!! Enjoy! Don't be losing sleep over imaginary fears created in your mind.

I have an uncle that has lived south of Mulege for 23 years. Through the years he has had very little problems and he is only there for eight month of the year. As you will find in most of the real Mexico (not border towns) there is crime just as there is in any part of the world. Large cities have more but they also have more people and therefore more opportunty. Most of the crime I hav seen in is crimes against property, not so much crimes against person. The property related crimes are often crimes of opportunity. Such as you went to town and left the gate and the door to your casa open with a big screen tv setting on the porch. Be obsevant, be aware, and watch out for you neighbors. Take the same precausions you would take where you live now and all will be ok.

Mulege is one the few towns that has scuba diving services so I've spent many weeks there over the years. I never had anything stolen and people had plenty of chances to steal all my gear etc. Crime can happen anywhere, but in a small town in BCS, I wouldn't expect it would be a problem at all.

I would use caution, but the chance of violence in particular would be very very low in my opinion. Much lower than in a big city like San Diego, probably lower than cities in Canada as well, although I know Canada has a low crime rate.

We had Family that lived in Mulege. Everyone knows the local thief and when something comes up missing it's usually pretty easy to find. The local cops don't have much to do I remember when one rolled the police truck over the bridge in town, if he hadn't been Drunk it would probably killer him.

When in the states, we live in a relatively low crime area, however there have been random acts of violence of various types in the region. The precautions that we take where we live now include carrying a Glock 23, my wife carries a Ruger LC-9. We refuse to be victims here in the US. When we travel to Baja we have other methods and means and we also refuse to be victims in Baja.

As sandlefoot stated above, "Be obsevant, be aware, and watch out for you neighbors".......also develop what the military calls your situational awareness and be prepared.

I agree with the situational awareness. I'm responsible for the safety of the people living, staying or traveling with me in Mexico. Just the way it is. It does drain the brain a bit to be alert all the time- but I never want to find myself faced with the consequences of "could have" or "should have".
