Default Tropical Storm Manuel

Tropical Storm Manuel has re-formed; BCS & a coastal section of mainland is under Tropical Storm warning from Cabo to north of La Paz. Manuel's course comes right up the Sea of Cortez & it's forecast to be just off La Paz by Thursday morning. EEBMIKE made no mention of how much rain Manuel may bring with it.

The good news is that I have my car back, so if/when we lose power, I'll have a light to read in A/C comfort!

Tied to it's column!

I need to find my bungee cords! Maybe Marty wouldn't mock me so badly if I was using bungee cords! Well, I can always hope!

I apologize.

I fell for one of the oldest axioms of humor: nothing funnier than someone else in (trivial)distress.

Wrestling something sharp, flexible, fragile, and unwieldy in a dark, howling rainstorm seemed to fit the bill.

From the NHC via Weather Underground:

rainfall...Manuel is expected to produce 5 to 10 inches of rain over
the Mexican state of sinaloa...with isolated maximum amounts of 15
inches possible. Manuel is also forecast to produce 3 to 5 inches
of rain over the Mexican state of nayarit and over the southern
portion of the Baja California peninsula
during the next few days.
These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and mud
slides.

HOLY SHEEP!!!!! Wiley, if I see something like THAT coming, Bing, Maggie & Jenny just may be on their own!

I'd sacrifice my cactus to the Storm Gods!!

Marty, pretty feeble apology! Why do I envision Marty saying "Oh screw the cactus, I'm going inside for a brew!"???

Spent much of my young life in Tornado Alley. every time a cloud came up my Grandmother made us go to the cellar. I hated that.

And they call women fickle? Manuel has shifted again & developed into a Cat. 1 hurricane; there's now a hurricane warning along the mainland coast. BCS remains under Tropical Storm warning. He's strengthened to sustained winds of 75 mph, but slowed down his forward speed to a measly 5 mph! Nary a drop of rain in Centenario.....so far!

I sure hope my cactus doesn't develop a complex.....being tied up & held hostage!

In 1983 I lived north of Houston Tx. about 85 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. When Hurricane ALACIA hit. When it went over my house it had sustained winds of 100 mph.
The Hurricane was bad enough it ripped the roof off and blew out the windows flooding the house. If that wasn't bad enough the Two Tornados that followed finished every thing off. I was lucky I had a fifth wheel travel trailer that we lived in in my back yard while we rebuilt the house. If I have enough warning I will NEVER AGIAN RIDE ONE OUT.

We got 2+ inches of rain in 24 hour period from Manuel here in Nayarit. It was, for the most part, just steady with very few torrential downpours.... everything drained pretty nicely with a few washouts in our area and some rocks falling but really no big deal, fortunately.

People were freaked after the pics from down south started showing up on the internet.

Be safe, hope you get some rain, just not too much!

Flew over Manuel late yesterday afternoon while traveling from Mexico City to La Paz.

The flight was delayed about 1 hour leaving Mexico City due to the storm.

All I can say was I was amazed by the cloud formations and how in the far in the horizon they covered.
The plane made several turns left and right along to get around some of the "mushrooms clouds"
They also did several altitude changes to smooth out the turbulence, which I think he did a good job avoiding for the most part.
Though the drink cart only came out once during the 2 hour flight, stewardess spent most of her time seated and rightfully so.

Ewwwwwwwww!!! Hurricane dodging in the air is just too iffy for my taste! I'll stick to the ground for my involvement with hurricanes, thanks! You got a death wish??

And when not needed for the cactus, you can groom your horse with them. I had one exactly like it.
