Default Rosarito Beach and Wooosh celebrate opening of repaved street.

Paseo del Mar was given it's official inauguration ceremony yesterday. Sadly no cake or mariachi. We were warmly greeted by the town leaders and the mayor as we thanked them for the new road. I know it sounds strange to celebrate a road being paved- but that what we do in Mexico when progress is made, even small steps.

Special guests highlighted in red circles attend the ribbon cutting.

ROSARITO, Baja California(PH) - The iconic street by the sea, in colonia Villas del Mar, after 40 years of neglect and deterioration, was repaved with reinforced concrete, and fulfilling his promise, was delivered by mayor Javier Robles Aguirre to the community for their enjoyment.

Robles Aguirre, who was accompanied by federal deputy Mayra Robles, city attorney Roberto Perales and councilmen Antonio Serret and Enrique del Razo, among other special guests, said that this a place to come together, for families as well as couples who like to visit and come here for its beautiful beach and the peace if offers its visitors.

With an investment of 945,537 pesos (US$73,000), resources of the city from the "Normal Work Program" for year 2013, they managed to cover 1,529 square meters (16,500 square feet) of this small boardwalk.

The malecón is in service for the enjoyment of the people of Rosarito as well as visitors, especially the many people from Tijuana who come to spend some recreational time in this location.

The mayor noted that this work was very necessary, as the condition of the street was causing serious problems for traffic circulation since the road was practically destroyed. As in all the works done by this municipal government, it has not cost the residents any money, the mayor pointed out.

The residents who attended appeared very pleased with how the project was executed, and it is a bonus for one of the most representative communities in the city.

It should be mentioned that among the special guests was Mariza Cisneros, president of the Grupo Madrugadores, among other personalities.

It's one of the things I love about life in developing countries. You learn to appreciate the small things - a great lesson in life IMHO.

We do much the same thing down here in San Quintin - every time there is talk of a new road being paved it becomes a local topic. The long dirt road going out our way has "reportedly" been paved three times over the past few decades. By the time the money "filtered down" there was little left - enough to pass a grader once or twice and that was it. SCT announced again this summer that they would be paving the road out as far as Bahia Falsa and even sent out a survey team. The locals here advised me not to get too excited because of the past history. I was even starting to adopt their cynical attitude but just learned that a good friend who is a contractor here was just hired to begin working with the survey team on the first phase of construction.

So the local buzz has started again...

There is controversy here too... of course. The City claims it paid enough to repave several adjacent streets but the cement company said the money was never there for it. So you celebrate what was accomplished and just move on in hopes of more money to do more in the future.

Wink Re: Rosarito Beach and Wooosh celebrate opening of repaved street.

I was there yesterday after paying my fido. in T.J. Too short a visit. Just enough time for Tacos Yaqui & a six of Pacifico on my deck in SADM.
Oh yah, re: roadwork, the main drag was looking pretty spruced up.
