well, who is there to replace them with? Is a corrupt cop better than no cop? Perhaps even a corrupt cop can do good things in between misdeeds- pretty much the way it has always worked. They needed a test to show us what we knew? An interesting predicament. So far they seem to be dismissing the tests and the test results and just carrying on.

Just another example of a good idea that will never come to pass. Law Makers are satisfied with only having suggested the idea. Their job is done.

It might have been better simply to aim for certification of new hires and cadets.

They dumped a bunch of applicants for state (BC) police jobs because they couldn't meet "standards"....backguound checks and dope tests, I presume. Not sure of the exact numbers but out of about 34,000 applicants only about 3,500 made it through the initial screening.

A friends son who is on the BC state police has to undergo unannounced screening (polygraph, drug testing, bank account review and home visits) about every 6 months. Also had to account and explain some of the law enforcement equipment I gave him.

They began that program a few years ago but there remains a percentage that have not been reviewed as I remember. All new hires today are going through a very rigorous prescreening. They have really upgraded the training process and the police academy in Baja California was recently awarded CALEA certification, the first in all of LatinAmerica.

Not quite that simple. . . a fish rots from the head down, not the bottom up. As in any company, the new employees (in this case: cops) do what they are told. So if you don't clean out middle and upper management, no amount of clean new recruits will fix anything.
