Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Here are a few photos of some of the things going on in the house right now:
Here you can see the wood burning stove almost finished. These are the bases for the kitchen cabinets. Here is the completed floor in our shower. The guys are getting the rough coat on the outside. This view just gets better looking every single day. |

What's that structure above the pantry?
Nevermind; I see on page 10 that it must be a little house for the pila. |

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Thank you for more current pics! Things are really starting to come together! And someone really did a nice job on cleaning the lot!!
Hmmmmmm....Did you do a sloping roof for water runoff over the 2nd bdrm/storage/shop/laundry wing?? How closely did you stick to your original layout? Did you find yourself making small changes as things progressed? |

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Yes, the roof over the second bedroom area (losa) is sloped. We still need to seal it but the good news is that with the recent downpour of a few days go, not even a patch of moisture showed through so I think we are in good shape. That part of the house still needs another row of block and some more finish work which is why I have temporarily stopped the guys on the exterior rough coat.
The house is almost an exact duplicate of the original plans with the exception of moving the hallway door back 24 inches and changing th sizes of a couple windows. Right now I am just going nuts trying to get several simultaneous projects completed. And you know Christmas is coming and the guys will be.... |

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Ron that looks VERY nice. That shower tile is cool. Did you get those locally or in Ensenada?
It's probably weird, but I love the smell of the concrete when the building's in that stage. What do you plan to use to seal the roof? I don't know what our contractor used, but it's a white rubbery stuff. It seals and holds up very well. Used it on the flat roof areas that are hidden from view by the parapet. |

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Thanks BigWooo. The tile is a combination of sorts. I picked up some slate mosaic at Home Depot, some loose slate at a garage sale and a bunch of travertine off Craigslist. I cut the white travertine and slate into the pieces that goes around the floor/border edge and the design around the drain I custom cut the small pieces from other tile I had left over. My plan is to put travertine on the shower walls.
A curious note to that job was the drain. I hate round shower drains on a shower floor as they are difficult to cut around and it never quite looks right IMHO. I found this 6" industrial drain online and it fits perfectly into the design. It is sturdy enough to drive a fork lift over it so it should hold up quite well over time. They use a product here to seal losas that is a white liquid they roll on and has rubber/plastic like qualities as you describe. Not sure what the name is but I think it runs about $50 USD per 5 gallon pail. Everybody here swears by it. |

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
The wood stove looks great, and I love the shower floor!! It's a lot of fun to see other folks' designs and unique decorating touches. Will you be in before Christmas, BG? (Note that I ask "Will you be in?" not "Will it be finished?")

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
You could definitely use a GC to measure the after-effects of muchos frijoles...

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Alrighty....I have read up to page 4 of this thread. So much fun to read. And I must remember to use Bookmarks when I see someone add a link like how to go about using grey water.
My head might explode with all this info. Barb |

Applications of GC-MS include drug detection, fire investigation, environmental analysis, explosives investigation, and identification of unknown samples. GC/MS can also be used in airport security to detect substances in luggage or on human beings. Additionally, it can identify trace elements in materials that were previously thought to have disintegrated beyond identification. here is what one looks like, but I don't really think BG is going to be needing anything like this right now in his neat house by the ocean!!

Re: BajaGringo Construction Report in San Quintin
Most of us have a "strange sense of humor". I was jokingly pointing out my ignorance....no clue as to what a GC was. Appreciate you guys adding to my compendium of "unlikely ever to be applied knowledge". Impressive looking gadget.
