Default San Martin Island Day Trip

These are some photos I took on a trip out to San Martin Island, which we face from the new homestead. This is leaving the Old Mill heading out on the San Quintin Bay...

Afternoon breezes begin to kick up some white caps. The current light beacon visible from shore at night can be seen. It was actually built by Chava, the same maestro building our new home. He really is a pretty good fisherman as well...

Photo taken from inside one of the fisherman's shacks on the island. It was getting cold from the wind and the hot coffee with kahlua tasted great. I used only the natural lighting in the photo to give you the full effect of the ambiance inside...

Love that photo most of all; brings back a lot of good memories.

That is the quintessential mid-day, post-work gathering so common in many, many fishcamps up and down both coasts.

Thanx for that. I also loved that one small admonishment found on the visitor sign...

Excellent advice, that. "No Petting The Sea Wolves."

Awesome photos. You really captured the moment in that fish camp shot.

Thanks for the nice comments. I want to get a good underwater camera as the island area below the surface is a visual playground.

Nice photos...

Have you though about exploring the lava tubes? I read about them in Walt Peterson's Baja Adventure Book.

Great pics Ron....I especially like the sea lion looking back over his shoulder giving you an "Oh, do I HAVE to wake up now?" look!

Those sea lions out on the island are some real characters. They love to show off and really are the island's "owners" IMHO.

David - I haven't done much exploring on the lava tubes except to look inisde a couple and make my way down a bit into one but we lacked the proper equipment and time to explore it properly, but I definitely have it on my list of things to do. The fishermen out there tell me that there is one that goes in very far and they haven't made their way to find the end of it yet. In August I will be spending a weekend out there and hope to be able to do more exploring and get some good photos...
