Three arrested in Rosarito Beach kidnapping, killing, including two US citizens

TIJUANA — The kidnapping of an 18-year-old U.S. citizen last month in Rosarito Beach and the killing of her Mexican boyfriend has led to the arrest of three friends of the victims, state authorities said Thursday.

The woman’s family owns a small business in Rosarito Beach and is civically active in the community.

Jose Leonardo Vela Robles, 25, was killed March 30, the same day he was kidnappped with his girlfriend, said Fermin Gomez, Baja California’s deputy attorney general for organized crime.

The woman, who is seven months pregnant, was held for three days and left for dead in a Rosarito Beach neighborhood on April 3 after her abductors tried repeatedly to slit her throat, Gomez said. The abductors had demanded $300,000 from her family to release her, but were never paid, Gomez said.

Gomez said that two of the suspected assailants had gone to the victims’ residence and asked for a ride to Tijuana. Once there, the couple was separated.

An investigation by Baja California’s anti-kidnapping squad led agents to detain Baltazar Ochoa Pineda, 29, a U.S. citizen who allegedly confessed to Vela’s slaying. Ochoa told investigators that he killed Vela because Vela had failed to pay back a $400 drug debt.

The other two suspects were identified as Brittany Louise Eisher, 22, a U.S. citizen, and Luz Rosenda Palma Aguilar, 28, of Veracruz. Two other suspects are at large.

The killers said it was the killed boyfriend's idea. Police said the same .38 weapon that killed the boyfriend matched a slug from a January 26 murder on Bulevar 2000.

Jealousy will get you nowhere! I thought it of more than passing interest that among those arrested, we find US citizens and a Mexican from Vera Cruz. Just doesn't make sense to me that someone would travel all the way across the country just to become a minor street thug.

Besides the fact that US citizens were involved in this crime, I find it amazing that they were willing to kill two people over a $400 drug debt.

It reflects either an unwelcome descent of our society, or that there was much more to this story than has been thus far reported. As I mentioned, the Vera Cruz connection. This may not have been just a street crime by street thugs in Rosarito.

I did also think it strange they would kill the boyfriend the very first day as reported if their plan was kidnap/ransom. You may be right that there is more to this story...

It is a sad event. Now we are getting our killers from the States. I guess Mexico is running low on killers.

I guess having grown up with pretty tough parents. It was love. My older brother came home drunk he was 16 and wanted to take on my dad because after all he was a tough guy. 16 and drunk. My mom called the cops this was in Torrance, Ca. they said they could not do anything if he was inside the house. She no problem you guys come anyway. When the cops pull up and knock on the door my mom kicked in butt into the street. He spend his 17 birthday which was the next day in juvenile hall.
My brother never tired that stunt again. He is a big supporter of the Torrance Police when he still lives.
Parents need to know what, were and who there kids are with. Maybe our world would be a better place.
and life could become valuable to them again.

Just maybe the punks would be helping someone instead of killing them for $400.00 bucks.
