Reminds me of nothing so much as a professional wrestling charade; all scripted indignation and feigned affront.

When will we see some government effort toward reigning in the enormous Corporate Crime Wave Eastern Financial Mafia© of the last decade and mitigating some of IT'S effects?

I was assigned (Chief Engineer on the Cutter Valiant in 1979) a Coast Guard ship out of Galveston Texas . Not a very good year for oil spills. We were actually on loan to the Mexican government for 3 months to work on the worst oil spill EVER (probably for not much longer). The rig belonged to Pemex, Ixtoc I (something I think of every time I get gas in San Felipe). Our government's response to that spill was 100 times better than our current response- and it wasn't even our rig.

A few months after Ixtoc I Nov 1979, I watched the explosion of the Burma Agate and Mimosa from the front porch of our house in Galveston. I remember going inside and kissing my wife and saying I'll see you in a couple of weeks. It was more like a month.

The mess from these two incidents was still visible on Texas beaches 10 years later.

Check out the link below, a little perspective...
