Default Ford Code Readers

Hey Diver!

You were my inspiration to buy and carry a code reader for my F150.
Glad you got one too. Now that we have them, the rule is, we will never need them.:cross_fingers:

As my saintly grandmother used to say;

"From your mouth to god's ears".

Really hope you're right !!

My main conclusion is to bring a code reader and laptop with Ford programs with me to Baja next time. And to keep FDT and Diana's phone numbers handy !!
They were both the BOMB !!!!

Seems like a nice place, thanks for inviting me.
Diver,

Tell me about your laptop with Ford programs. Is that something I need to download before there is a problem? As I said, I bought a code reader. I also carry a MAC laptop. What Ford programs do I need? Can I get them online or from a Ford dealer?

I thought all I needed to do was to have a code reader that could pick up the problem directly from the vehicle's onboard computer by plugging it in.

Tony,

I got the PCM/FICM program form my Ford dealer after applying a little pressure.
I know others have it available but I'm not sure the PCM/FICM program is available on standard code readers; maybe on code reader/programers.

Most tuners only save your previous tune and then install theirs.
This is so you can reinstall the factory tune when you go to get service.
I suppose if you ran a tuner and had it save the Ford tuning, it might work for a PCM/FICM reprogram but I'm not sure. Maybe Ron knows ?

This is only an issue with 2003-2007 6.0L Ford diesels.
Should not be an issue for your F150.
