Well, I have a positive experience to report. I am up in Rosarito for a few days and I crossed the border this morning to pick up a few things in San Diego.
Forgetting where I was for a moment, I rolled a stop sign. I was brought quickly back to my geographical senses when the red lights of a Chula Vista cruiser reflected back at me from my rear view mirror. I stopped and instinctively pulled out my wallet. When the officer approached he asked me if I was the registered driver for the vehicle, noting the Baja plates. I acknowledged that I was and handed him my tarjeta de circulacion and Baja drivers license. He then asked me if I had a California drivers license and I told him I did but when I went to pull it out of my wallet I remembered that I had scanned a copy of it yesterday for a tramite I am doing in Tijuana and it was still sitting on my scanner in my office back home. He asked if I had any other ID and I showed him my US passport. He looked at it, shrugged his shoulders, reminding me that I was not in Mexico and just let me go. That was a first... ![]() |

and that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you remembered the license was on the scanner..........
Not exactly the same scenario, but I've had that feeling before...... oooh, doodoo! I can relate! Cool cop, though.

"license still in the scanner"
I need to remember that one. So much more believable than MY Dog Ate It. ![]() |

It was nice to get away with a freebie for once north of the border. Not much of that going around right now with so much pressure put on cops to increase revenue for local governments.
I sincerely did appreciate the gesture and let him know... |
