It seems that my new PASS card with RFID chip can be hacked for identity theft.

I'd just read that this morning.
"...The purpose of using RFID is not to identify people, says Mary Ellen Callahan, the chief privacy officer at Homeland Security, but "to verify that the identification document holds valid information about you." ![]() An RFID document that doubles as a U.S. travel credential "only makes it easier to pull the right record fast enough..." To "faithfully transmit its unique identifier "in the clear, exposing the tag number to interception..."...make an entire set of movements posing as somebody else without that person's knowledge..." Yep. Don't believe that 10 centimeter-10 feet-160 feet shuck-and-jive either. I was just reading about DOD missile targeting using this technology>>>1 kilometer+ embedded data returned... |

Just more big brother. And I don't mean the TV show. Another sign of the times: In a study recently published by an independent think tank, authored by former Governor Jeb Bush, former White House aide Thomas F. (Mac) McClarty III, and Edward Allen, in 1990, there were fewer than 3,000 Border Patrol Agents. Today, there are almost 20,000! Staggering.

Yeah, great. Is there some kind of wrapping I can't put my ID in to contaminate it's signal or receptiveness to a signal?
A lead box? Boy, that'd be handy. |
