Default Best time for La Paz

other than anytime....
I have to pick some of my annual vacation for 2011 today and my priority is to get to La Paz for a major look around.
I have 17 days off so if any of you Pacenos had to pick the time of year that you enjoy most to come down when would it be?
Help!

August and September are HOT! Of the other ten wonderrful months, November, April and May I think are the best.

C'mon down and let us know anything any of us can do to make it a wonderful trip!

Thanks Dusty.
With my work schedule that would be Nov 22 through Dec.8....
sound good or should I make it October so I have a little more daylight and warmer water for my kids to and us adults to play in?
That would also encompass Thanksgiving and my wife's birthday....I don't think I can lose in this decision making process.

October is a coin toss. Still hurricane/ tropical storm season. Later is better. Doesn't mean that you might not go down Oct 1 and never see a drop of rain. But, history shows it to be more likely.

If you want the water warm, May through October is usually okay. In April and November it's usually too cold for me, but I'm a wimp. Apart from swimming, weather is super right now and has been since November. The hot/humid time is usually mid-August to mid-October, with September being the worst. Water temps drop fast when night temps get down into the 60s.

Bajahowodd is right about October.
Kate tolerates heat well, I think. I'm more a penguin. Our pool is cold now, but I have no problem with the SOC anytime of year, at its coolest it is warmer than OB in August, and I u sed to stay in the water there for hours.
The other nice thing about November is that if we get some good rain in September (which did not happen this year) it is still very very green in November which makes for beautiful vistas and drives.

Translation of water temps according to Kate:
90+= too warm except at night
84-90 = fine but on the warm side
78-84 = perfect
74-78 = chilly but okay if air temp is 90+
70-74 = marginal
Below 70 = no way!

Right now my pool is 58. Sea of Cortez is warmer, maybe high 60s?

I don't follow the weather reports much. I'm surprised that you didn't get much rain in September. Reason is that we made a round trip to Cabo in early October and I was surprised by how lush it was a bit North of you near Loreto. Frankly, I had never seen so much green in that area.

It can be spotty. Not unusual in September to see it raining at the airport and nowhere else. Sometimes can watch it rain in La Paz for an hour or so and we won't get a drop. I think we got less than everybody but even the areas around us didn't get as much as the three or four years prior. We only had one good rain day all summer..

Some of my November and December trips have produced the best weather for me.....then, of course, there was that time in late November in Bola when I had it rain and/or mist 4 out of the 6 days we were there....still fun, though!
Depending on the course next year we may have to get down a few days earlier and catch the 1000 running by our place in Bola....hmmmmm, good quandaries to have...

To each their own drummer.....but I'd opt for May-June. It's starting to get warmer, yet not miserably hot & humid, more daylight hours & while I believe June is officially start of hurricane season, earliest I've experienced in the past 11 years was August 24, 2003. Most have been in September. Additionally, it'd be sooner!

This time of year, it's dark by 6 PM & can be downright cold at night. I won't even go stick my hand in my pool to pull the thermometer out to do a temp check & I doubt my pool is as cold as Kate's (different exposure). While I believe Dusty would probably swim with polar bears, 84-86 is my perfect....fergit anything below 80 for me thanks! !

I believe this was actually a fishing expeditionfor some of the "lesser lovable attributes" of La Paz!

Pools are a different deal. I was in the water at Balandra a few days ago and it was just fine.

I am a fan of the long days and I also like some heat.......nah, I am not looking for the downsides.....I know they are there, like any area, but we live for the positive and good stuff.
I do like that late May/early June. I will ask my wifey, otherwise know as the "decider" what she would prefer.....

Yeah, it is funny how a smaller body of water gets colder so much faster than the bay does!

Balandra????? Water all the way up to your ankles would be more likely!!

Cold water? Anything thing much higher than my knees makes me flinch!
It's done, I have the end of May off and the beginning of June....now to start saving those pennies since I am not going to be staying in my own place....going to have to do some camping, too, which will be a blast with my family.

Cool, Soulpatch! Something new for you and the family to look forward to between now and retirement. Hope we get to meet you while you're here. In any case, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

No doubt that we would all like to meet the people, if they are all willing, that have helped me formulate plans to make a dream my reality.
