The Secretary for Public Safety for the state of Baja California, Daniel de la Rosa Anaya, said the anonymous tip at 089 rose 62% in 2010 compared to 2009 and seized over 23 tons of drugs from those same tips.

He added that during 2009 there were 19,993 calls to 089, while in 2010 there have been 32,232, a 62% increase in anonymous tips.

"The courage of the community to report illegal or suspicious acts resulted in the seizure of over 23 tons 975 kilos of drugs and 2,701 suspects arrested for committing various crimes and 142 firearms seized".

He added that it is essential that the anonymous tips continue to increase as a tool for Baja California families to assist in more effective action and security by the various levels of government.

In addition to the 089 number, anonymous tips may be submitted through the website for the Ministry of Public Security, which is SEGURIDAD BC as well as through the following emails:

Many thought that the locals would be reluctant to use this system out of fear that it might not be 100% "anonymous". Apparently that has not been the case and that is great news...
