Avenida Internacional Shut Down for 60 Days

Tijuana - Avenida Internacional, the much traveled road that parallels the border fence and connects the San Ysidro crossing with Playas de Tijuana and the toll road will be shut down for repairs.

David Navarro Herrera, director of Urban Development for Tijuana announced that the roadway will be repaved with concrete and work has now begun on the section from the El Soler offramp to the Playas exit.

Navarro added that the shutdown will apply for both directions and is part of the larger program of upgrading the roads of the city.

Esteban Yee Barba, the director of Public Works recommended that people who must still travel through the area to use caution and consider taking alternate routes like Second Street, Ninth Street or Fundadores Blvd.

Anybody care to coach us on how to proceed?

Came through there south bound yesterday there was a well marked detoure and at 3:30 pm the trafic was moving very well .NORTH BOUND I NEVER GO THAT WAY. I always go through TECATE.

It may just cut down tourist traffic through SY. That said, I've taken the other streets and hooked up with the toll road on a number of occasions. Doesn't take all that long, and given the awful condition of the fence road, it's about time.

But, hey. Didn't someone say that the ultimate plan was to double-deck this route? The construction on that would be a lond-standing nightmare. So maybe this is a rehearsal.
