Private boaters fishing in Mexican waters are being stopped at times by the Mexican Navy and asked for their passports. Arturo Martinez of the Baja California Norte Secretary of Tourism office said you must have proof of citizenship.
"Mexican General Immigration Law and its regulation require to have your passport while in Mexican territory, and that includes Mexican waters. The navy can request your passport and fishing permit when they perform a routine inspection," he said. Martinez says that the Secretary of Tourism has requested a meeting with the Admiral in charge of the Mexican Navy. "We are requesting a urgent meeting with the Admiral in charge of the Mexican navy in Baja California for next week so we can address this important issue and the protocols of engagement so they can be as friendly as possible to our honored and distinguish guests and anglers alike," said Martinez. |
