Question Any advice for bringing my dog back and forth?

Hello to all...in the process of making the big move to Baja, but meanwhile I am going to be going back and forth while I get situated. What's the story on bringing my dog? he has his vet's documentation, but I'm concerned about being stopped returning to the U.S.

Nothing to be concerned about. He is your property, and all they want to know is if his rabies shots are up to date... and they may not even ask.

The best paper about bringing dogs to Baja was written by Wild Bill a few years ago, and it is on Fred Metcalf's web site... Here is the direct link: Pets in Baja

Never had an official problem--just at the Uniformed stops--first trip with her she almost tore the window trim out trying to attack the soldier. Next time, I grabbed her before they got to the vehicle and she almost pulled my arm off. Needless to say that they never stick their arm in the vehicle.

Back to the issue.....the US inspectors have in the past asked for a health certificate....a current edition. Be prepared.

Another thing....you may want to introduce your dog to a vet in Baja. Their prices are a fraction of what you pay in the states and the quality of their work is good.....some of them anyway. Get recommendations.

What part of Baja are you headed for?

I have gone back and fouth across the border a couple of times with my Border Collie since moving here 6 weeks ago, including a trip with 3 dogs from Baja Animal Sanctuary for an adoption event up in San Diego last Saturday. I also brought another dog back with me from the San Diego event and even though I had all the health certificates, no one in either direction asked for them.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a dog or cat (or turtle or rabbits right now) the Sanctuary currently has over 300 dogs and 100 cats available. I have been working with a gorgeous German Shepard that will make some experienced dog person an amazing companion.

Maybe you should start a thread with photos and descriptions of the animals available. The photos go a long way to create interest...

Thanks for the advice BG. I will be back at the shelter in a couple of days. I will choose a few of the dogs I think are pretty special and post some pics of them.
