Default Baja Import Mail Services

My wife has just opened a new business here in Baja. She provides a US mail and package service.

You can get your personal mail, magazine, catalogs and online orders delivered to you here in Baja.

The price for Baja Norte is not where we want it to be...if there is enough interest we think we can get the price down.

Anyway, you can visit her website and find out all about it at http://www.bajaimportmail.com

Thanks TalkBaja.com

I think this is a service that many living more than a six to eight hour drive from the border will probably find valuable. Sounds like a win-win for everybody involved...

We think so. We have been using this personally since 2007 and it has worked out perfect.

I order all of my tools for woodworking and get all my US magazines and catalogs!

I hope we can help others in need of this type of service!

And a big thanks to you BajaGringo!

Sounds excellent for folks in BCS, especially in and around Loreto.

But, BajaGringo is in San Quintin, and there are many folks on this forum living full or part time in BCN.

So, just how would you propose to develop an economical way to serve those living hundreds of miles North of your home in Loreto?

Not trying to be argumentative. Really. I'm guessing that you have many satisfied customers close to your home.

I just think that if you are serious about covering the entire penisula, it's going to take an investment on your part, inasmuch as folks in places such as San Quintin, Ensenada and Rosarito have other alternatives, or will simply make the occasional trip across the border. Just saying that unless you can be price competetive for those in BCN, just perhaps you ought to be happy with your current business. No disrespect intended.

You may be exactly right.

We are offering the service at the price we can do now. Perhaps it is not competitive in Baja Norte, it's hard to find out about this type of service in the areas you mentioned.

We are offering the service in Baja Norte at $100 pesos more than most of Baja Sur, this is to cover the additional fee that Estafeta charges to deliver in Baja Norte from Loreto.

Then again some areas may have no service at all. This may make us an option for some.

If there were sufficient interest in specific locations we have a plan that could make it less expensive for those people.

As far as near border areas go, we understand that people have other options and we don't see a lot of potential in those areas. However, in San Quintin or other similar areas, maybe there are full time or mostly full time folks that need an option.

The bottom line is that we hope to provide a safe, secure, and economical alternative for those in need of this type of service.

In order to avoid confusion and issues with exchange rates, prices have been converted into US dollars.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Since you've indicated your targeting "full time or mostly full time folks" primarily, it should be less confusing & more straight-forward to keep everything at a peso level....virtually all of the full-timers I know deal only in pesos, plus, trying to adhere to the fluctuating exchange rate would be a real headache. If you quote USD, virtually everyone I know would have to be converting it back to pesos! Besides, pesos, not USD is the coin of the realm!

You have a point.

The main reason we decided to change over is that our partner (Mexican company) that actually brings the mail and packages across the border deals only in dollars. Even the Aduana taxes are assessed in dollars. You know how the border areas are, dollars are used everywhere.

A business like this runs on very small margins making it hard to "eat" differences in the rate. So we would constantly be adjusting the peso price to match the dollar and I don't think our customers would be happy if the cost was constantly changing.

That's the reason...it a judgement call but I think the right one.

Thanks for the comment.

We received some good news this morning.

We were given a discount on packages over 6 lbs.

We had been charging $1.75 USD per pound over 6 lbs.,we are able to reduce that to $1.25 USD per pound now.

This will save $10.00 on a 26 lbs. package.

The website has been updated to reflect this new lower price.

Thanks.

Is it based purely on weight?

There is a shipping fee $39.00 to $66.00 depending on location. This fee includes 6 lbs. of shipping weight with each additional pound at $1.25 (it was $1.75 before today).

It is primarily based on actual weight, however, large volume items will be measured for a volume weight calculation (it's on the website) that may be used to determine "shipping weight".

These are all industry standards.

I hope I answered your question?

Which only means one must hermetically seal the contents in a helium filled bag. Put enough gas in there and they may have to pay you for shipping the item.

To get that to work you would have to make it something that could hold pressure - they have a volume calc too...
