I went to the consulate in Raleigh NC with my paperwork and went nicely how ever still a language barrier. my question is she placed a mexican visa in my us passport does that meen I have to register it in Ensenada and bring along the same paperwork and how long do I need to cross the border into mexico.

I think the proper steps are to have it stamped at the port of entry and then when you decide where you want to stay register it at the local immigrations.when I got mine i think there was a 30 day window untill you had it stamped at the border port of entry or it was invalid.

I am kind of curious why you did not enter as a "TOURIST" (Turista)
If you fly down you get the visa as you enter at the airport. The visa is typically good for 180 days.

If you driving down it is done at the border and is only required if you are traveling beyound Guerro Negro, Mexico. (maybe somebody in Baja North can confirm).

J.P is correct. I doubt things have changed, but when we did ours a couple years ago, you had 30 days to get it stamped at one of the ports of entry, then up to a year to register at the local immigration office where you plan to take up residency.

I thought the Mexican Consulate here in the US has stoped all services to the none Mexican ?
