Default Rosarita Beach

Ok, I have been looking at the webcam for Rosarita Beach which shows the red lifeguard tower north of the pier. It looks beautiful with the cabana's etc., the question is I never see anyone swimming or surfing in the water. The reports say the surf is good but the water quality questionable. The other question, is there security or a lifeguard on the beach in that area. I thought I might stay at Los Pelicano's, surf in the morning and afternoon and just rest up during midweek for tranquility, not looking to party. Any comments?

Hi. I live in Central Rosarito. The water is as clean as anywhere in Baja Norte and much cleaner than the border region (from San Antonio del Mar north). All sand bottom and beach- the waves follow the changing contours. Don't surf for four days after it rains. The eight lifeguard towers were donated by some California state beaches six years ago. Only the one in the tourist zone is manned. Rosarito isn't staffed or trained for a tower lifeguard system- they patrol on quads and in trucks (mostly just telling people to get out of the water with loudspeakers). The tower near us hasn't been manned in a year and this year the tower doesn't even face the water. It's not BayWatch- I'm never seen them swim or train. You're pretty much on your own except for your fellow surfers. A pretty good group actually. One is a surf photographer who lives near me: Damian Davila: https://www.facebook.com/#!/damiandavilafoto?fref=ts

Are surfers still coming down to Baja Malibu?
