Baby Seal pup rescued today in Rosarito Beach
I saw this seal pup on the sand of our Federal Zone concession this morning. There were people watching an adult seal out on the beach so I knew what she was looking for. I put a blanket over the little guy and carried him back out to his mother, who was very happy to see him. A few hundreds yards down the beach was the father- who was dead with his head missing. Could have been a shark that killed the father and spooked the little one out of the water. At least the mother and pup survived. The mother's kisses say it all, huh? Very sweet start to our day! A very happy ending!

I go to the Coronados to scuba dive with waterhorse charters several times a year. Didn't realize how close it was to Rosarito. Tons of seals/Sea Lions, even elephant seals on those islands. Especially sea lions.

Several net fisherman work the beach all day long and always get some small fish- so I don't think this was starvation. Large sharks that kill seals aren't common here either though. This one was lucky his mom stuck around. I hope Alonzo doesn't find out these seal pups may be hungry. He'll fill the pool with them and he's friends with the net fisherman. :) Viva Baja.
