Default Wannabe Expat

I will soon be retired and wish to visit (for 3-4 months or longer) in different locations. I am looking for quieter areas (not Cabo). My issue is, I have my granddaughter that is in the 1st grade and needs her education. Does anyone have information on areas that offer private schooling for elementary aged children? Some ideas as to where to stay for 3-4 months or longer --- renting to get an idea if I like an area.

If you have ventured to discover Baja perhaps you could share your ideas.

I have been to the following areas- Pescadaro, Cabo, Los Barriles, Todos Santos, San Quintin.

Thank you for your help.

Coming from Oregon----Jan

Have you considered Ensenada????..........

Several highly rated private schools, shopping, cultural events, medical care. 90 minutes to the US border/San Diego

Oh, and you can find several "quiet" areas!!

Do you believe that with Ensenada being so close to the border that the crime rate might be higher?
Is that area more simplistic. I didn't want to experience big city life.

For me, "close to the border" is Tijuana and Rosarito area. Ensenada is where things start to define the real Baja for what you are looking for. Just my 2-centavos worth.

Ensenada is not "close" to the border....and crime occurs everywhere. Just be selective on where you want to live.

Also, the smaller the city/town/location, the less opportunities you will have to find "private' schools.

There are several excellent private schools in Ensenada. Although Ensenada is a fairly large city, you can, with some exploring, find quiet areas.

You should also plan on driving your grandkid to school and back, or taking her on the Micro buses as there are no school bus services.

If you want info on some long term rentals in a secure rural environment about 5 miles from town (Ensenada) send me a private message.

Long term rentals in Ensenada would be great. Looking for 2 bedroom- pet friendly-quieter area- around $500 us dollars monthly.

WIth a child that age I would consider, depending on your weather and activity preferences:
Ensenada
San Jose del Cabo
La Paz

You might want to look at Bucerias in Nayarit, too.... everything city you want but easy to be minutes away from it.

I'm sure that is doable in Ensenada, however it is best if you could come down for a week or so and check out schools and rentals. Not really easy to pick a school over the internet, or a house that would suit your needs.

If you are interested, let me know and I can put you in touch with some families that have kids in Ensenada private schools
