Default Rosarito Beach mayor wants to restore order

"The operations of criminal groups in the municipality had been tolerated for the last few years." says the new Mayor. No kidding, huh? Try to get the "Baja Image Committee" to repeat that sentence. They will deny there was any crime in Rosarito and that it is safe, let alone that crime was actually "tolerated". That's what PR machines are for- although denying three years of headlines did them no good. jmho.

ROSARITO, Baja California - The return to order which is intended to be implemented in Rosarito is the result of the violent events in the last few weeks, as according to Mayor Silvano Abarca, the operations of criminal groups in the municipality had been tolerated for the last few years.

Now we are commited, he said, and the decision has been made to combat "the troublemakers." Last December the number of violent deaths rose rapidly, and the same for January, because it appears there is a want to create a climate of insecurity which does not exist. But this is the tail end of the abandonment of security in the past.

I recall an article posted a few days ago that stated they were making a lot of changes in the local police department "at the top".

Only beginning there can any true change begin to take hold in the long run.

I sincerely wish him and the city of Rosarito a lot of luck. I hold a lot of special memories of that place and have a lot of good friends who still live there...

It is encouraging, but where will "clean" replacements for corrupt police officers come from? That seems to be the main problem with all levels of security- there aren't enough good men and women,
