It's been a truly fun ride...

First, I want to thank all of our members here, as well as those "lurkers" who have followed our forum for the past few years. I sincerely have enjoyed the time we have spent together here on the forum and through it all I have had the opportunity and great pleasure to get to know all of you who share our love of the Baja peninsula. With this incredible experience I have been blessed to meet many of you and forge what I hope to be lifelong friendships.

But the time has come to turn the page and start a new chapter online.

As many of you know, I work with an abalone farm here outside San Quintin. My involvement has now grown to include our oyster farm, San Martin Island operations and the early planning stages of what will become our own packing plant next year, God willing. As it is, I have precious little time left in my day to be able to sit in front of a PC, and that is mostly dedicated to business. A forum such is this requires a lot of hands-on time and that is a luxury that I simply don't have much of anymore. Cristina has pulled the plug on me on more than one occasion.

Last year I created a TalkBaja facebook group page and that is really taking off.

The added plus is that the membership there includes a broad, cross cultural mix and the chemistry is a lot of fun and obviously working. What makes it doable for me is that I can easily access facebook from my smartphone which is much more manageable based on my schedule right now. I truly hope that you all consider joining us over there and get involved. Today, facebook is offering much better online privacy and you can easily choose who has access to see your page, posts and photos. It actually offers much more privacy today than this forum setup can provide you. If you haven't checked it out recently, I strongly suggest you give it a try.

I will be leaving the forum up for a few more days to allow our members to be able to access any photos/videos they might want to download or to simply just read a favorite thread one more time. At that point the talkbaja domain will be forwarded to the facebook group page.

Again, thanks so very, very much for your participation here. I truly consider you all my friends and hope that our paths may cross one day, very soon.

IMO, this SUCKS BIG TIME!!!

There are a lot of people who do not use social media networks.....me & several others on this site as well. Since I will not participate in Facebook, I do NOT want my posts & my pictures transferred there. Is there an easy way for Marty to go in & wipe all my posts out with a few keystrokes.....or do I need to go in & delete then one-by-one? Please advise.

I will not be transferring anything (except some of my own photos) to facebook. Once I take the forum offline ALL of the content will deleted.

Not trying to be stealth or anything, just an inside joke between the wife and I. She nicknamed me Gomez (that's another story) after we first met and the name stuck.

My pleasure pal and by the way... I forgot to publicly thank both Marty and Woooosh for sticking around and doing so much to help keep this place working and a safe place to post. And a special thanks to Gruñón who came out of retirement to help us get started on the right foot back in the early days.

Without you guys and all your help it would have been completely impossible for me to have kept this forum up for this long. Thank you!

Hey BG, it's good to know that your abalone farm and related projects are doing so well. I'm sorry to see TalkBaja go but understand that lives and priorities change. I'm no fan of Facebook (tried it for a while, and it drove me crazy) so I doubt you'll be seeing me there, but I wish you and Cristina all the very best. Many thanks as well to Marty Cortez for his sane moderation and other fun stuff, and to fellow members for their contributions. Hope our paths will cross one day.

Received your email this morning about closing down this site. I am one of the lurkers. I finally got talked into getting active on Face Book earlier this year so I will see you there.

Good for you for recognizing your limitations and not spreading yourself thin. And it's especially good that you're focusing your attention on a thriving Mexican business.

I'm glad I discovered this forum a few months ago - definitely a safe place for those Baja wannabees who ask lots of questions.

Lastly, for those reluctant to join the Facebook group, it's informative, fun, and very active - capturing the spirit of this forum and then some. It has the advantage of being more interactive than an online forum, so no one should feel as if they're missing out on the sense of community Ron has created here.

Thanks Ron- but the pleasure was all mine. I love your FaceBook group and think it is the future for "groups". The message board format had it's place in time- but that time has passed. Too much work to weed out automated "bot" postings and trolls. Mexico has stepped up with cheap technology for the masses. Movie-star cell plans give unlimited smart phone access to FaceBook for people who may not have had a PC at home to post. TalkBaja on FaceBook has become bi-lingual as a result and has brought a whole new dimension to TalkBaja. It's a very cozy, safe, feel good place that still takes on issues. Good move and thanks for the hard work!

I'm on the Facebook Talk Baja site and agree that it's very easy to interact and see photos and links etc.......it's the future.

I am sad that you are not keeping Talk Baja alive, but happy that your life is prospering!
Can I ask if you could just shut down any new postings/replies (so you are not in need of managing/editing), but keep the contents view-able online for all the contributions your members have made here to be available to anyone for the benefit of Baja tourism... at least for a while?
