The Jesuit Camino Real from Loreto north to Santa Maria approximately located on the popular auto club map...

The mission road location has been documented by Howard Gulick in the 1950's from his extensive research when mapping Baja for the Lower California Guidebook. Harry Crosby has traveled the Camino Real on muleback from Comondu north and documented the trip in his 1974 'The King's Highway in Baja California' with basic location maps. Detailed maps of Crosby's trip were published in 1977.

Using the satellite images online at Google Earth and Wikimapia.org, one can actually see the Jesuit constructed road running for much of the distance from Loreto to San Borja where modern roads have not been built over it. North of San Borja, the Jesuits did not have time to build the Camino Real to their typical standards before they were removed from California. In this last section, only a few sections can be seen from space and much of it is more of an animal trail than a 'road'.
